Here's what I do for fun:
I practice Aikido 5-7 days a week, do Karate twice a week, raise orchids and a few other houseplants, read, bake, and watch some TV and movies. I recently joined toastmasters so that I could eventually learn public speaking. I've also enjoyed writing for a long time.
I am married, have two kids, and work full time in health care. I work hard, and play hard, but I'm not a partier. Drunk, drugged people really piss me off.
My brother is a regular contributor on rant/rave. I always knew that he had a refreshing, funny writing style that needed to be appreciated by other people, too. His eclectic interests, twisted interpretation of events and people, and keen insight made for fascinating long phone conversations. I kept telling him this: Your job doesn't utilize your writing skill at all. You know you love to write. Write letters to the editor, a journal, anything. Just get your views on paper, and enjoy the process. Finally, he did. I'm so proud of him.
It took awhile for me to get around to reading his work. Politics is one of the topics he talks and writes about. I'm ashamed to admit that history, geography and classic literature are some of the most enormous information voids in my brain.
I decided that since I was the one who encouraged him to air his views, I wanted to see what he's writing about. I might learn a thing or two about the many subjects that I've been avoiding for too long.
Cheers, fellow ranter and ravers.
