unemployment has little to do with illegal immigration

I am tired of hearing it, but it never gets used up I guess. Whenever a discussion about illegal immigration comes to the foreground, the phrase ,"they're taking our Jobs!", immediately comes out.

There is a funny little program now, and one that I find quite endearing. The substantial portion of the jobs these wicked beasts we call illegal immigrants are taking are jobs that would include very low pay, and often dangerous work. This program has taken the initiative and decided to help us keep our jobs, they have attempted nothing short of completely removing that annoying phrase from that argument all together.

This program is called, "TakeOurJobs.org". They have taken the idea that if they really are taking our jobs, then we should be able to keep the, but if they are not, then it needs to stop being used as a valid argument.

There is a massive unemployment rate going on. This is easily seen by most of us, and directly felt my far to many. Nevertheless, the amount of responses to this program has been small, and the majority of it is hate mail. According to TakeOurJobs.org, only a few dozen applicants have gone through the entire system and taken a job.

The reason for this is that they get to see that the jobs that are being taken are hundred degree plus weather for minimum wage or less in certain circumstances. This is without any sort of benefits, or any sort of compensation from the state.
It is hard work, and there are just not a lot of people willing to actually do it.
The entire reason for this issue is because of the jobs, and this pretty much nullifies that in my opinion. There is no reason to continue to hold that as weapon against illegal immigrants.

All of this aside, I am not for opening the borders and saying come on in. There are immigration practices for a reason. I just think that we need to really thinl about what those reasons are though. We need to stop falling back on things like this that are obviously false.

Opening borders simply because they do our dirty work is no more moral than shutting them out without cause. This is a bigger issue here. One that has several issues involved, and is not just centered on this small, rather insignificant part of it.

Some states such Arizona has attempted to stop it entirely, Some have tried to please both sides. Both arguments are dependent on unique issues that each individual area has. Everything for spreading of disease all the way up to Drug smuggling can be partially attributed to illegal uncontrolled immigration.

Jobs however are really a very small issue, and hopefully people will see this.

Think on this....how much better would those jobs be if the people filling them were able to publicly fight for better conditions, benefits...etc. The elephant in the room is that these farms would never be able to survive if they had to pay union scale wages. So the government turns a blind eye...

Yes the entire Undocumented Immigrant Hysteria now was just drummed up by the Governor and Senator of Arizona because they are facing tough reelection campaigns from even more rabid extremists.

Why wasn't there similar hysteria when Bush was in office? No they have to blame Obama even though he has increased enforcement, the number of border guards has just about doubled, he has authorized 1200 National Guardsman to help, Illegal border crossings are down 18% and crime along the border has also gone down.

All of this has improved since Obama became president yet he is being accused of doing nothing and not enforcing the law. It is total hogwash and partisan Fear mongering!

Yes there is a drug problem, we should increase that enforcement and Obama has, bringing in more captured drugs and more arrests than under Bush, but the hard working Immigrants that our country relies on for it's cheap labor, are good people that break the laws at one fifth the national crime rates.

There is a problem but it can only be dealt with by doing Comprehensive Immigration Reform, and all of those on the right are unwilling to solve the REAL problem. They prefer their fear mongering because of cynical political motives.

This is a knee jerk reaction to the unemplyment problem from the heart of people that dont really understand the implications of what they ask for.

you can not really hold Arizona under a bad light for that. It is their job to react to the will of the people. If they themselves were in disagreement with the governor then it would be another story.

This is one of those cases that labeld politics can not solve. For reform, it would require what many would call a gray scale, and implying that there is a law for some but not for others.

i have never been to sharp with political issues, but i can not see why a modified system can not be used that would expedite the process of legalization, so long as the process is done in a way that criminal actions would halt the process and lead to deportation.

anyway, you are correct about needing reform, but i do not think that we should necessarily model it after Obama's actions either. we send 1200 guards down there for a reduction of %18. that sounds good, but it can not possibly last or even increase unless we turn our border into something that North Korea would be proud of.

I can't vouch for the rest of the rest of the country, but around here Mexican illegals are commanding anywhere from from fifteen to twenty five bucks an hour. They have one "straw boss" who has documentation, and they all work under him, and he negotiates their price.

As far as our border being something North Korea would be proud of, let's do it. There are quite a few people that we know of who would love to sneak a bomb across our border, and blow up our oil refineries in Texas, our ports, or our famous Golden Gate Bridge.

I have talked with the farmers and they tell me that the American blacks and whites, won't do the work, at the pay they can afford to pay.

When some black takes the job for one week, he has done bad work and has complained each hour of the day and has talked about a mile a minute, about how he is above this kind of job.

So, yes you are right, blacks lie when they complain about losing the jobs to Mexicans.

You would need 5 Blacks to do the amount of work that a Mexican does in just one day.

Why? Because they jive talk all day and can never stop talking and just do the work without complaining.

The whites just walk away and threaten to sue the farmer for their backs.

Yes, I see this excuse as a lie. Mexicans do not take the lousy low paying jobs away from the blacks or whites.

You would need 10 whites to do the same amount of work, if they lasted for a whole day.

The farmers will miss the Illegals that work for peanuts.

I tell it like it is, I pull no punches, tell no lies, and I am as I am

...at the pay they can afford to pay...

Could it be at the pay they need to pay along with the employer contributions to, Social Security, Unemployment and health care...etc?

Could it be that thest salad eating liberals won't pay 10 bucks for that salad or 2 bucks for a WalMart tomato?

Besides. We import most of our produce these days.
22 months ago: The whole "jive talk" is an insensitive racial statement. Though I suppose you weren't trying to be culturally sensitive. Is it really that they cannot afford to pay it or that they don't have to because someone will do it for less for survival. And, not all of these people are illegal.

Mexican does not equal illegal. Er, unless you are in AZ, the worst state in the whole dang country. What a crock they are pulling...I can't even believe this is happening in 2010.

Never underestimate what a person will do to survive.
22 months ago: Could the 18% reduction be caused by the fact that Americans are purchasing less? Causing less of a demand for the products the illegals supply? How is that housing construction market going in your neck of the woods? To say or believe that Obama and his 'Strong' stance on illegal immigration by sending 1200 support staff is responsible for this decline is laughable. It has done nothing to produce the 18 percent reduction in illegal border crossings. The long term economic downturn has done more to secure our southern border than the white house policy.

22 months ago: Actually the 18% reduction happened before the natl. Guard was sent down. I hate to admit this but I have to agree with TCG that a lot of the reduction was due to the economic downturn in this country. When jobs were hard to find for everyone including undocumented, why jump the border to stand around at Home Depot?

This illustrates that if we got Comprehensive reform that targets the people hiring illegals it probably would be more effective than targeting the illegals, but then all of our crops would rot in the fields. Part of the new reform would have to include temporary worker permits so these seasonal workers could come in to harvest the crops.
