What is the quintessential "American' fashion? Perhaps the good old denim jean.
(though one could argue for t-shirts and baseball caps). However, the company that started it all, in the same town I started life in (San Francisco), no longer makes jeans there or anywhere in the U.S., from what I understand. Levi's.
On the other hand, Carhartt, which purports itself to be the friend of the American outdoorsman and working guy, is ending ITS U.S. production, while American-made goods companies are ending THEIR relationship with them as a result.
BULLY for someone taking a stand!
Now, doing a Google-search last week for "American-made jeans", I found no less than a half-dozen companies using American-made denim from American-grown cotton with American production workers making jeans right here in the the U.S.A.!
Pointer, Buddy's, Union-Made, Texas Jeans, Schaefer, etc. And these American-made jeans sell for approx. $33-$40, with some higher-end "fashion jeans" also available from OTHER American designers/producers. This is cheaper than the big name jeans produced in 2nd- and 3rd-world countries you find at Kohl's and Target and Wal*Mart and Bass Pro Shops and Boot Barn, etc.
So, why not take a small "step" to boost the economy, turn this country around,
and also save and create American jobs by simply buying a pair of U.S.-made jeans? It's a start, and every little bit helps.
Do your part to help us get a "leg-up" on foreign competition!

The Democrats will submit the: "Creating American Jobs and Ending Off shoring Act," which will be probably be voted on next week. This bill will end subsidies of companies that move out of the US, and will give tax breaks to those who bring jobs back.

"The bill provides a payroll tax holiday to businesses for new jobs relocated to the United States. To be eligible, businesses must certify that the U.S. employee is replacing an employee who had been performing similar work overseas. This payroll tax relief is available for 24 months for employees hired during three years beginning Sept. 22."

"It ends taxpayer subsidies for U.S. plant closing costs when firms move facilities offshore. The bill prohibits taking deductions, losses or credits for amounts paid for reducing or ending the operation of a trade or business in the U.S. and starting or expanding a similar business overseas."

"Under current law, U.S. companies can defer paying taxes on income earned by foreign subsidiaries until that income is brought back to the U. S., a practice known as deferral."

Of course the Republicans are allied with big business and opposed this bill and also the small business bill that the president just signed that help get Americans more jobs.

He has to.
