There is a new discovery that is leading one more step into a cure for HIV. There is a new antibody discovered that allows for a resistance of %91 of HIV strains.

The antibody was found in a man in Africa who is 60 years old. They scanned him and though only a small percentage of the cells in his body produced this antibody, they managed to find it, and are beginning the process to find out what caused them to begin producing the antibody.

When they can identify the source of the antibody, they begin to figure out what the difference between his cells and everyone else's and other people can then begin producing it on theirs as it the nature of vaccine.
Amazingly enough, though I'm not certain that it is coincidental, this research was published 10 days before the international AIDS conference in Vienna where prevention is the majority of the discussion.

The Vaccine Research Center at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, from whence this research came, stated that it did infact show prevention from %91 of all HIV. Even though they seem to be far from a workable vaccine, they are are very hopeful.

Previous work in the area was done, and the majority of them they found resisted only 1 or 2 strains, while some more recent had about %40 of them. This newer one is a much larger step.
