The Catholic Church just approved a new application that will allow confessions by iPhone/iPad. The application is called "Confession: A Roman Catholic App." The Rite of Penance will cost you $1.99.
There is a Ten Commandments checklist with a brief questionnaire. The application will have a pre-set list of transgressions for you to choose from in inventory and fixed prayers. It will even let a person add their transgressions if it is not already listed in the application. It will have the church ritual and its password protected too.
The Pope Benedict XVI gave his blessing to social networking saying, "I would like then to invite Christians, confidently and with an informed and responsible creativity, to join the network of relationships which the digital era has made possible." It's great to see the Catholic Church stepping into the 21 century and taking advantage of the technology.
You will be able to ask for forgiveness from any location in the world. The confessional booth is now at your disposal via iphone/ipad. Download Confession: A Roman Catholic App at iTunes:

The Vatican is saying people should still show up in church for confession. From a personal stand point, allowing people to confession online is kind of impersonal and might even make people too lazy to go to church.
