I wonder what we really are suppose to do ?Our jobs are gone not enough has been all we have seen I wonder where the next quarter, pennies, dollar, nickel, or dime will come from they are slashing medical, needy family benefits unemployment even thou they put their searches for work no returns as far as any on work resumes still no work we have to give up most everything as far as food stamps or you wait tile they start setting up your employment and wait another 6 weeks to get a check when you know that rent is due no food in the cupboards because you exhausted your help through the food banks what is it that we do next? We need to wait and see what the government is going to do congress needs to pass their budget and find out where we stand as far as what we can survive on and where are the jobs? The benefits where are they can we eat tomorrow it just doesn't make sense what do you tell your kids why they can't eat or the helping is small we just sit and wait it makes us unstable it brings on tears and depression it can cause medical bills some don't get any help at all its just to much to handle yet it tells us it's better to hang in there and wait take any position you can to make a dollar even if its minimum wage its a dollar to put the bread on the table and worry about where the next will come from

I feel your pain. Please know that you are not alone.

Evil, nameless puppet-masters have re-engineered the American economy so that food must be purchased, as opposed to growing or hunting it. As a result, people without money cannot eat.

This is NOT natural. 100 years ago, most Americans grew and hunted their own food for free. Jobs and money were unnecessary luxuries.

Hang in there. American citizens are not as cruel as our leaders are.

100 years ago it was indeed possible to survive on 40 acres and a mule, but it was a heck of a hard life, and most people preferred moving into town and setting up a business. Some started a store, others had skills they could trade on. Doctors and teachers received chickens in payment for their services. This was capitalism at work.

Now there isn't enough land and I doubt if 95% of the people have the skills and are hard enough workers to live off the land. During the Hippy movement a lot of people tried getting out of the rat race and living off the land. Not many were successful.

There are many reasons it is so hard to get a job now. The first is the economic recession the Republicans caused. The second is globalization where corporations are free to move production over seas where people are willing to work for pennies. The third is technology. During the recession corporations tightened their belts and improved their efficiencies by helping each worker do more with robots etc. That way they didn't have to hire as many people.

Today unless workers are willing to work for pennies they can't compete with their Chinese, Indonesian, African competitors. The robots and technical aids are not going away. They have already made that investment so they don't need as many people as before.

So what are the unemployed to do. One thing is what they did in Germany. Work less hours and do job sharing. http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=n...

Of course if people are working less they make less so they need to learn to be more frugal and live with less - smaller houses and more economical cars, and yes growing your own vegetables in your yards or community gardens. http://earthfirst.com/urban-gardening-yo...

The other thing is that you can work outside the system. Just because you don't have a job doesn't mean that you don't have job skills that you can trade on. You can fix someone's sink in exchange for their caring for your kids or something like that. Rely on yourself not business or government. http://www.simplyhired.com/job-id/kpsdld...

Or you can set up a business or work at home as a freelance. http://www.paid-work-at-home.net/freelan...

If you are a conservative and are wedded to the idea of a free market economy with no government help there isn't much hope for the unemployed in today's political environment. Many corporations are not even considering those who have been out of work for a while because job skills go downhill unless you are going to school while you are unemployed. Many companies don't even consider applications from people who don currently hold a job.

If you are a progressive and think that the government should help it's citizens so they can retain their dignity, work and become good taxpayers, then there are some things the government can and should do. Job corps is a good program that educates half time while giving job training and experience the other half of the time is good for inner city kids (less than 21 years old). Americorps is another good one. You could volu

At least they feed and house you while giving you experience. "Free to participate Volunteer Programs" in South America: http://www.volunteersouthamerica.net/

And this web page, http://www.serveyourworld.com/articles/3… , has a comparable list for Africa.

I recently talked to some members of the Civilian Conservation Corps. I wasn't aware they still existed, but they were out here clearing brush from park lands. I think the government should expand that program and put Americans to work planting trees and responding to all of the new disasters that are being caused by Global Warming. It could be paid for by taxes on the fossil fuel industries that are causing the problems. http://www.rantrave.com/Rant/Bring-Back-...

The economy as people like to call it is us. We are the economy. We the collective of working and not working people, employers and corporate big shots. We can't blame big brother or some nameless bigwig for our woes. If we fall we should get up. Confucius once said our glory comes not from not falling but from getting up every time we do fall!
