I would like to do a short and informal survey on the food Rant Ravers eat locally. Feel free to partake or remain silent. Thanks!

1. Would you like to see exotic meats (such as: giraffe, monkey, dolphins or lions) served at casual dress or fast food chain restaurants? (Up scale chain restaurants already do in some cases.)

2. Would you like to see more diversity of vegetables and preparation of vegetables at casual dress or fast food chain restaurants?(Usually they are in the form of a garden salad or steamed country vegetables{aka: Broccoli, cauliflower and carrots})

3. Do you get bored of the same greasy fast-food menu's, their limited choice, their over availability?

4. Would you eat at establishments that served local seasonal food only if they were owned and managed by chain establishments?

5. Would you be opposed to paying for fruits and veggies in bulk and in advance and have them delivered or picked up seasonally so that local farmers could get back to growing local produce?

6. If your local supermarket offered such a service would you take advantage of it?

7. Have you purchased meat in bulk before?

8. If you eat meat, do you prefer the taste of fresh killed game or farm bread provisions?

9. Do you eat a minimum of 6 to 8 servings of fruits and veggies a day?

10. Do you have trouble serving fruits or veggies with your meals in an appealing way?

The reason I ask is not because I'm nosey, although subconsciously maybe I am. I've noticed in my own personal experience that we humans are creatures of habit. Most of us would buy healthier food if it was readily available and just as satisfying as the bulk commercial stuff we eat now. The difference is that large scale producers of food are not convinced that they could make money from locally grown or produced produce or meat. I suspect that nationally most people would eat fast food veggies as much as they would fast food fries and that it is not the grease that we crave but the convenience. Your answers to these questions will either confirm or dissuade my suspicions. Thank s Again!

21 months ago: Alligator, Rattle Snake, Bayou Turtle, Bear, Moose...

I have eaten them all. The Bear and Moose was shipped in from faimly that lives in Alaska. We send them the Alligator, Rattle Snake and Bayou Turtle.

Moose is a tad on the stringy side so you'll need to really work the cross cut when carving.

How about Buffalo? Don't you live close?

Oh, I forgot. Beefalo.

I think I'll pull out the deep fryer tonight and try some...

Fried Okra, Fried Green Tomatoes, Fried Potatoe Cakes...

My Grease meter is needing an infusion...

2 yes, but it's hard to get the prep times down to what you would call fast level, without sacrificing the nutritional value
3 no, I just eat somewhere else. No need to get bored with it, nobody is forcing me to eat there.
4 I'll eat local and foreign food as long as it tastes good.
5 yes, on a personal level I would not do that. On a co-operative level, no.
6 Yes, if there was a guarantee of a certain quantity and quality
7 yes
8 fresh
9 yes, on days that I eat
10 no

20 months ago: I eat meat and 4-5 servings of vegies and fruit each day, however because of income I don't always eat what I want. I eat what I can afford.

I get really good buys on Vegies from the dollar stores, but the fruit and vegetables are probably from Mexico and full of pesticides because they are the cheapest.

If I had unlimited funds I would only eat range fed and free range critters that are grown organically and dispatched humanely.

I would only eat certified organic fruits and vegetables and whole grains.

If I could get the above in fast food restaurants I would, but I also enjoy cooking. I also enjoy gardening and would like to grow as much of what I eat as I could, because then I would know it would be safe.
20 months ago: 1. No, as long as you exclude Ostrich. I love a good Ostrich steak.

2. Yes, but veggies without meat are pretty boring to me.

3. Yes, Yes and Yeeeeeessssssss.

4. Nope.

5. If that were practical I might. I think however fear of government regulation has many local farmers afraid to sell on a small scale. I know I would be.

6. Again I think over regulation has pushed the small farmer out. Stores are pretty much afraid to buy from small farmers even if they are related to them.

7. Yes I bought meat in bulk a few times but it was just to much and didn't really work out for me.

8. Livestock raised for meat are generally dumb as rocks. For the most part I don't think they have a clue as to their ultimate destination. For this reason I would take the farm raised meat. I am however not against game hunting as long as the meat is used for food. Even better if everything possible was used for a purpose.

9. No, I am an omnivore but with a carnivore slant.

10. Yea, don't ever try to grill watermelon friends.......not a pretty site.

I would love to see more fruits, veggies, nuts, and grains prepared simply and deliciously at every kind of eating establishment, particularly at fast food restaurants, so that people living on lower incomes will have access to more healthful food options than they do now.
