Are you ready?

If you are confused, I think that it the point. I recently received a facebook page suggestion for something called the Artifice that would be "arriving" January 30, 2010. The page had a 26 second video that simply added to the mystery.

I love a good internet marketing mystery. Some turn out to be pretty lame while there are a few that have turned out to be pretty clever. So, I set off.

All I have really been able to figure out is that "The Artifice" is a feature film that is being produced by an Independent Film company called Fortune Frames.

The word "artifice" means clever, or tricky, crafty, cunning, or inventive.

At first blush I am thinking that the marketing may be better than the product. How much better? I guess we will find out in 39 days.

25 months ago: I checked the IMDB and there's no movie by that name coming out next month but after doing 5 minutes of open source intelligence gathering, it's a small time indie feature being marketed by a couple of budding filmmakers who want to change the film industry (don't they all)

The domain (THE-ARTIFICE.COM) is registered to Fortune Frames Ltd out of the UK and it's hosted on a server in Ontario, Canada. Searching on the registrants email address gave me a hit to 'Inertia Pictures' on myspace.com and it's described as, "We are Inertia Pictures, founded in October 2007 by two Coventry University students, Anup Sohanta and Kris Walton."

Fortune Frames Ltd has a website as well and it's described as an independent film company formed in Coventry by a group of performance artists. The Artifice is listed as a project that represents their "desire to break down the systems of control within the film industry, and replace them with forms of collaboration, cooperation, and support. The synopsis of the movie plot is no less self-important but sounds interesting - you can read it at www.ftframes.com under projects.

25 months ago: found this post through google, thanks for all the info. Just to add a few things I found myself:
* it does appear to be independent, but I ran a whois and the email used for that domain did not link to Inertia Pictures.
* No IMDB? It might be because imdb only accepts releasing movies (development for known film makers) and we have not been confirmed if artifice is actually being release end of jan.
* the fortune frames website does indeed give perfect explanation of what the whole deal is! thanks for that

It now says its coming in June 2010 and its supposed to be a game/film
This is what it says in the teaser video description

The Artifice aims to explore the subject of a deeper awareness through characters and situations that we see in everyday life. Its not about intergalactic space travel, lost civilisations, or people from the future. Its about us; who we are, who we have and always will be; The Artifice is now."
