We Need Something to Inspire Us

What the USA really needs more than anything is not Donald Trump for President – a guy who's gone through more bankruptcy than toupees, we need Steve Jobs. We need someone who really gets that what America needs more than anything right now is something to inspire us. We need a JFK-style, put a man on the moon goal, and some inspirational words to go with it. We need to take stock of what we've accomplished as a nation and some goals to move forward. Most of us who voted for Barack Obama saw an inspirational leader the likes of which we've not seen since JFK. Unfortunately, he wasn't willing to wait out as Hillary Clinton's V.P. for a couple terms, get some seasoning, and learn the job from a higher vantage point than the U.S. Senate. He has all the capacity in the world to lead us down the right path. He has the ability to see the good and bad in the political 2.5 party system and galvanize both on a common mission, but he lacks the mission leaving most of us to wander aimlessly trying to figure out what this is all about. We need something to motivate us and drive us to excellence. We don't need to manufacture enemies and build weapons, we need to join forces and create something spectacular.

If you could pick the next goal for the United States to accomplish, what would it be?

Instead of giving out cash handouts as incentives to stimulate the economy, give out solar power systems. People would take their savings on their power bill, and put that money back into the economy, and the sun will be here next year, and the next year, and the year after that.
Thirty years from now the money we spend today will still be paying off dividends, long after the big screen tv everybody bought with their tax handout has hit the landfilll.

I extolled the virutes this would have on every aspect of the economy if no one ever had to again pay for electricity. So, I like your idea!

They clearly hate Nuclear, but put up with it because they were sold the lie that it is safe. Now as an island with few natural resources, I think they will rally around renewable resources, especially tidal and wave which they have in abundance. Wind, photovoltaics and Algae to oil will also be important. Unfortunately all of the other countries are investing in this new green technologies much more than we are so I am afraid we will miss that boat.

I think our nation's major need right now are jobs. We have the 99rs and the inner city youth that are becoming chronically unemployed and unemployable. The free market will not care for these people and have already written them off. The only alternative is to get government involved. Programs like Job Corps could be expanded. These programs both educate and provide work experience. We need another program like FDR's Civilian Conservation Corps. For every dollar spent giving a person a job $3 will be circulated into the economy and that will cause the entire economy to grow.

SO what should these people do? The skilled can be put to work rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure, and rebuilding roads and high speed rail. The unskilled can be put to work repairing the ravages of nature. Katrina and now the wildfires have destroyed millions of acres of forest land. Send unskilled people out there to replant forests.

Jobs programs like this are important not just for the economy but for their sense of self worth and dignity.

12 months ago: CR,

I was being sarcastic..... guess you missed that... the whole "assassination" is a hoax, at least the way they are feeding it to us anyway, it probably happened some time back, and they have been milking the terror-tree for all it's worth !:]

I cannot see how it was a hoax. Why not wait until it would be more valuable then? Why do it now?
12 months ago: box free electricity thats a good idea.
In the uk at the minute they are giving grants of 1000 pounds and will pay 1000 pounds a year for the next 25 years to anyone putting solar panels on there roof.
Our solar panels heat our hot water our boiler never comes on now saving a fortune in heating bills.
Alt jobs is another good idea but like some parts of the usa we have a generation of youths who are unemployed-unemployable.
All they seem to do is take drugs, drink alcohol and have sex with eachother.
Do you guys have to pay for water in america in the uk we have to pay roughly 60 dollars a month so i would say give everyone free water.
That would help even the poorest person and not cost the country too much.

The first step would be to convert our big trucks to natural gas and then to hybrids while gradually phasing in a new rail network. http://www.ushsr.com/

If we built a high speed rail system throughout the nation, those transportation corridors could also contain freight lines and highways, and also an updated energy grid with underground DC power so we didn't loose half our electricity in transmission, we could have windmills and solar all along the way, and tap into regional energy sources. The entire South should have solar power. The Dakotas have ample Wind, the Rockies have Geothermal.

The East Coast will soon have offshore Wind Farms. Why not combine that with tidal and wave generators fed to the same DC transmission lines?

Rebuilding our energy and transportation systems would also revitalize the job situation and give everyone with an education a job and the rest as service workers to support them.
