Sure, you want to know which of your favorite TV shows have been canceled. But it’s a pain to visit each network’s website and do all that research. Here, I did the legwork for you – no charge. Also, the five major TV networks – ABC, CBS, The CW, FOX, and NBC – previewed their upcoming lineups for the new season earlier this week.
Without further ado, here's the new TV show season lineup for 2009.
ABC
-----
Canceled: Dirty Sexy Money, Eli Stone, Life on Mars, Pushing Daisies, and The Unusuals.
Renewed: Brothers & Sisters, Castle, Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, and Ugly Betty.
New:
“V” -- A reboot of the alien invasion mini-series from the ‘80s. “They promise to do no harm. They're lying.”
“Happy Town” -- There’s been almost a decade of peace in Haplin, Minnesota. But after the first crime in seven years, some dark secrets are revealed. Vague.
“Eastwick” -- Based on the movie “The Witches of Eastwick,” a mysterious man unlocks mysterious powers in three women.
“Flash Forward” -- A mysterious event causes the whole world to black out and get a glimpse of the near future. “If you knew what your future held, what would you do?”
CBS
-----
Canceled: Eleventh Hour, The Ex List, The Unit, and Without a Trace.
Renewed: Cold Case, Criminal Minds, CSI, CSI: Miami (Owww!), CSI: NY, Ghost Whisperer, Medium (used to be on NBC), Numb3rs, and The Mentalist.
New:
“NCIS: Los Angeles” -- A drama about undercover surveillance and specialized police that track and capture criminals that threaten America’s national security.
“Accidentally On Purpose” -- A single woman “accidentally” gets pregnant after a one-night stand with a younger guy and decides to keep the baby and the man. (Can you say “Knocked Up?”)
“The Good Wife” -- A wife and mother assumes responsibility for her family and re-enters the workplace after her husband is caught up in a political sex scandal and sent to jail. Like a non-comedic version of “Arrested Development.”
“Three Rivers” -- A Grey’s Anatomy lookalike set in an organ transplant hospital. Expect emotions, scalpels, and hot surgeons.
The CW
------
Canceled: Reaper, Privileged
Renewed: 90210, Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Supernatural
New:
“Vampire Diaries” -- A young woman who’s torn between two vampire brothers (one good, one evil) can’t decide who to trust. (This one’s for fans of Twilight.)
FOX
-----
Canceled: Prison Break and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
Renewed: 24, Bones, Dollhouse, Fringe, House, Lie to Me, The Simpsons, The Family Guy, and American Dad
New:
“The Cleveland Show” -- "Family Guy" Peter Griffin’s sidekick heads off to Virginia to start a new family and make new friends. The next-door neighbors are talking bears. Yeah.
“The Human Target” -- It takes a tough man to rent himself out as a “human target,” but our hero puts himself directly into the line of fire to save his clients. Will it be kind of like Dollhouse, but for fans of 24?
“Past Life” -- A pair of past-life detectives investigate if your current problems are being caused by who you were before. Huh?
NBC
-----
Canceled: Crusoe, Kings, Life, Lipstick Jungle, Medium (transferred to CBS), My Own Worst Enemy, My Name is Earl, Knight Rider
Renewed: Chuck, Friday Night Lights, Heroes, Law and Order, Law and Order: SVU, and Southland, Parks and Recreation, The Office, and 30 Rock.
New:
“Day One” -- After a globally destructive event, a small band of survivors struggle to rebuild society and discover what happened. I’m always in favor of more post-apocalyptic dramas.
And that's all, folks! Disclaimer: I did my best to get all the information I could. Sorry if your special TV show didn't get a mention!
(H/T to ABC, NBC, The CW, FOX, and CBS)
