I have always held to the notion that if we hired CEO's to run our countries we just might get better results. Maybe a "third party" in the American political race is not what is needed, rather a change of the way America does "business". Fire the president and hire a CEO... and if he/she doesn't perform as paid...
send them "down the road, talking to their hard-hat!"

WHO says we can't do what works... why do we have to be stuck with a defunct system? Just outsource the Governmental duties to Apple, and the labor force to McDonald's... sorry, that's already been done... and get the numbers back where they should be.
What incentive is there for a government to be responsible...
if there is no way to do so?

"Sovereign Nations" worship their monarchs... while they sellout their futures.

I say give "PIECE" a chance!
Time for a piece of the "i-pie" ...try the APPLE !;]

9 months ago: In fact there are 29 companies that have more money than the US government. http://thinkprogress.org/economy/2011/07...

That is because 2/3rds of the companies here pay absolutely no taxes at all ( although I am certain some of these 29 probably pay some. While we are bankrupt many companies are making record profits but avoid paying their fair share because of loopholes and off shore accounts that Republicans refuse to close. http://money.cnn.com/2008/08/12/news/eco...

The Republicans think that if we shower the corporations with even more money they will start hiring, but they refuse to target tax cuts to job creation, and the corporations haven't created any jobs, because there is no demand because the middle class is suffering while the rich are swimming in dough. The only way to create more jobs is to spend more money, not less.

Corporations are not even accepting job applications from people without a current job. How will they solve our unemployment problem like that? If the private sector can not or will not hire that only leaves the US government. It has to be able to do a better job than the free market. http://my.firedoglake.com/ubetchaiam/201...

Corporations also routinely run deficits, especially now if they can borrow at negative interest rates. It is cheaper now to borrow than to pay cash. http://modeledbehavior.com/2011/07/10/ch...
Also almost all corporations borrow money to pay for projects.
9 months ago: Altruist,

Believe it or not I agree with you about taxing large companies... but for what? SO that all the money goes to paying endless interest on a debt with the FED? How much of your taxed goes to anything else? You never answer that question...
9 months ago: Altruist,

I don't think you get it... if NO taxes go to pay for anything but interest on the debt... why do you want to tax the "big guys?"
9 months ago: Look at the list. His big bad 29 are all compaines that got bailed out in one form or another by his Savior. Yes, even FannieMae has more money than the U.S. Isn't it strange how G.E. made the list? There is not a single big bad Republican oil company on the list. You have to be a brown nose democrat company to have made that list.

I'm still waiting to see if someone looked at what they posted.
9 months ago: Care to comment on who is on the list? I'm not sure how you link these companies to the Republicans. Here is the list of 29.

9 months ago: I'm not sure if they know that government has a built in increase of 8 percent growth per year.

I don't know about you but my budget didn't increase by 8 percent last year or the year before or the year before or....

Somehow it is OK for government to grow at a faster pace than the average taxpayer.

No? Baseline budgeting? Ever heard of it? How can you count a lowering of the baseline as a savings of dollars and deficit reduction?

I say FREEZE the budget for 10 years at 2008 levels and make the government workes earn their paychecks.

9 months ago: Why not freeze the budget at 2000 levels and cut military spending in half and return the tax code to what it was when we had a surplus.

The answer is of course that things change. The 2000 budget wouldn't account for 9/11 and the war on terror. But now Osama is dead and there is no reason our military shouldn't go down to what it was before. The main thing you are going for by freezing the budget at 2008 levels is that you want to go back to the budget priorities of Bush which destroyed the economy.

Besides I thought you guys didn't like budget deficits. According to the US Treasury, the USGovt. Debt on;12/31/07 was: $9,229,172,659,218.31 and on;12/31/08 was: $10,699,804,864,612.13

Treasury site: http://www.treasurydirect.gov/NP/NPGatew...

That means the US Govt. deficit for FY '08 was $1.5 trillion. Why choose a year as a model or baseline that is so out of balance? Why choose a president that doubled the National Debt as a model?
In 2000 the outstanding debt was only $ 5,776,091,314,225.33 at the beginning of the year and $ 5,662,216,013,697.37 at the end of the year.

Why not choose a president that actually balanced a budget as a model?
Why not choose the year 2000 as a model since it had a surplus of $114 billion?

Of course we would have to scale everything up to include the cost of living and the increase in the US population, but if we kept the same tax rates, and the same spending priorities I think we would have a stable baseline we could use as a model.

As far as the list of banks and corporations TCG is right, his hero Bush did bail them out with his TARP program. He should have put some preconditions on bailing them out, like the banks actually lending money to get the economy going again.

At least after Obama got handed this mess he was able to get the banks to limit their corporate bonuses and get them to pay back their loans quickly.

9 months ago: Chris Dodd and Barney Frank? FannieMae and FreddieMac? How many of those nasty bankers that Obama bailed out not have moles in the current administration? Never have answered my question about how Obamas' pet company, G.E., gets away with government money, pays no taxes and is on your dirty list of 29.
9 months ago: While it is true that G.W. signed the T.A.R.P. bill into law it was written and passed by the Democtats in the House and Senate. Let's not forget that Obama requested for Bush to request Congress to release 350 billion to the Obama administration.

"Obama Asks Bush to Seek TARP Funds From Congress"

http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=n...

Where did that money go? Who was in charge of handing it out?
9 months ago: Here you go Al. A list of G.E. holdings to begin your rant on why they should not be paying any taxes after Obama gave them a bail-out and tax breaks. You think the G.E. Media holdings might be a clue? I'm sure G.E. Media will "paint" Obama in a better shade than those nasty paying republican customers. Ain't this stuff strange?

G.E. on the top 29 list and getting federal money while holding these assets...

9 months ago: No kidding Al. You want to pretend the Democrats hands are clean? Really?

2009 to present? The cold hard facts by one of your own...

9 months ago: I have never pretended that Democrats as well as Republicans are not bought off by major corporations. And I don't hold Obama blameless either. Even after Fukashima he is still pushing Nuclear power which benefits GE.

In every single decision Obama has made he has capitulated to big business and now with the debt ceiling fiasco he has given the Republicans and their corporate masters even more than the Republicans asked for.

I have always said the Dems were owned by big business but I also said they weren't as bad as the Republicans because they weren't entirely dependent on the million dollar bribes of the corporations because they have millions of smaller donations from the people. For that reason they still pretend to help the people and do at times.

The Republicans have given up all pretense and cravenly do the bidding of the corporations,, but their propaganda machine is still able to convince people to support them even though all of the Republican policies hurt the middle class.

Any Democrat would be thousands of times better than the Tea Party terrorists who are determined to destroy the country just to get rid of Obama. We need a real Wellstone liberal willing to stand up for the people.

You are wrong about the TARP being written by the Dems that was Paulson's baby. He scared the daylights out of Congress and pulled a bait and switch. Promising Congress they would use the money to buy Toxic Assets but then giving it to the banks instead. http://georgewashington2.blogspot.com/20...
