Congress Watches America Circling Drain
Written by
America is in a devastatingly dire economic situation because it has never tapped into the bountiful resources that have always had the ability to pull the US and its' economy from the miring mess it is in. The state of the US and world economies are suffering drastically because of the mess that the US governments' subterfuge and true lack of attention and effort has ultimately caused in mending the US economy. Government officials must stop ignoring the plight of Americans and the economy by finally assessing and collecting the American elite and their corporations their fair share in taxes from revenue acquired by continually raking in unwarranted and unjustifiable earnings, profits and wealth at the expense of America and its citizens.

The upper class has ensured, through actions, that their ill-gotten gains continue to occur (at the expense of the US and its' citizens) by putting in place imbeciles, morons, cronies and simpletons in governmental, lobbyist and news media positions throughout the US. With these positions in place, these elitists and their corporations have ensured that a blind eye and a deaf ear will always befall the American public as these parasites continue to bleed America and it's population dry. Stop to consider that the average American pays a staggering 35%, or more, in taxes on meager earnings while the upper class pays, on a generous average, only 17% (on a good day) on their excessively, ostentatious and unjustifiable exorbitent wealth, profits and earnings. And we all know that corporations pay their fair share in taxes - if you believe this then you believe in Santa and faery-tales too.

America's government officials, the upperclass and American corporations are truly the new age robber barons causing the back-breaking, country bankrupting, drain circling oppressiveness sending the US and its' citizens to the brink of disaster and beyond. Until these elitists and their companies finally pay their fair share in taxes, America and its' citizens will continue to suffer the short sighted "Me, me, me, me, me!", "Only my ill-gotten acquisition of wealth at any and all costs to the American public counts" attitudes these parasites and elected government officials embrace and embody. These pirate-ous profiteers have never been held accountable, nor have they ever paid their fair share in taxes in their continual pursuit plundering and raping Americas population and resources, all in their greedy pursuit of wealth.

Many Americans haven't made a rent or mortgage payment for lack of employment in many months while members of Congress blatantly ignore the necessity to extend UI benefits while giving the wealthiest few and their companies extended tax breaks. These tax breaks, on a low average, increases the individual coffers of the wealthy few by $200K more of unearned profits for each three million already in their possession - without having to do a thing their wealth instantly increased with the stroke of a pen by the President. Congress and these Robber Barons dole themselves this additional wealth yearly, while treating down-trodden Americans like parasites for needing government assistance for the mess that the government and the upper class have caused, and are continuing to cause without an end in sight. The 200K per 3 million dollars they've increased their income by each year is roughly 9 to 10 years of UI benefits for the average American and their family.

Consider the Great recession started in 2007 and as yet has no end in site, UI benefits, if your lucky nets only 99 weeks of assistance. Now consider that the Great Depression, oops, I mean "recession" has been ongoing for approximately 206 weeks and counting. Many Americans have been without any aid, intervention, or support from the US government for more than two years while the wealthy continue to reap unjustifiable wealth during this same time because of the tax breaks their friends in congress give them as freely as candy at Christmastime. Americans are becoming homeless and crowding our streets at an alarming rate while congress works to give even more wealth to those already living in complete and utter excess. While the average person is being told to, and expected to live with less the elitists of America and their corporations are growing and harvesting money trees planted and nurtured by the American government.

Many Americans go hungry while members of Congress and the wealthy never want from hunger. Many Americans don't know where the money will come from to pay delinquent utilities of the last several months while members of Congress waste tax revenue on extravagant, first class roundtrip flights in the US, world and their home states multiple times per month. Many Americans have applied for more than a thousand jobs over the last three years as unchanging unemployment holds the world economies in the depths of the Great Recession, while members of Congress and the wealthy refer to these Americans as lazy or stupid for not finding employment. Many Americans went back to school to gain new skills for this volatile economy only to find that when they've completed their studies in order to re-enter the workforce that Congress has made it easy for the wealthy and their corporations to outsource dwindly employment opportunities to other countries.

Many Americans feel the loss of hope, dignity, family and a lifetime of possessions because members of Congress, the upper class and American corporations robbed it from them while coldly ruining their lives. These Americans are our families, our friends, our neighbors. The current administration, congress, elitists and their companies have yet to recognize or acknowledge the crisis they have caused is growing exponentially out of control, all in their blind pursuit of unjustifiable greed. No amount of government generated propaganda will alter the measurable effects to society and the economy.

81% of the people in the country think that taxes should be raised on the rich, but everyone in the Senate are either millionaires or beholden to them, so that won't happen. Two thirds of the people don't want Social Security or Medicare changed and want collective bargaining rights preserved, but a radical right wing faction has moved all legislation to the ultra conservative side.

The right has also loaded the courts with ideologues that have declared corporations people, whose bribes and propaganda are protected by the first amendment, and now with the Citizens United Case, they have eliminated most campaign reform laws and allowed the corporations and billionaires to spend as much as they want to buy elections with no disclosure required.

I suspect that you would be singing a seriously different tune, Al, were both houses of congress controlled by the GOP. What if it were YOUR side that was forced to stand by and watch as the party in power ran roughshod over you.

What would YOU be saying, Al, if, despite millions of emails, snail mails, faxes and phone calls, a GOP-controlled legislature did things you found abhorrent? Would you be celebrating or decrying the results?

Ah, Al, it was "progressive" jurists that have made such messes. Just as it was Democrat controlled congresses that passed all (or the majority of) the drug laws. It the federal bench is packed with "progressives" - not conservatives.

But you cannot see that. Your ideology blinds you utterly to the real world. And that is sad. Because when the (I believe now inevitable) revolution comes you won't be able to see it coming until the world you know crashes around your ears.

If you knew how very many people are arming themselves and training and preparing to survive such a cataclysm you would surely wet your knickers - soil them, too!

American, nor it's citizens would not be in this current state of economic crisis if the elite and their corporations would pay their fair share in taxes instead of getting their friends in Congress to ignore what the entire planet sees must occur. Even if I were in possession of 3million plus dollars I would pay my fair share in taxes. It's the only way to ensure survival of the country, if everyone pays their fair share... not just those regular Americans who are bullied into submission by the government that has never shown them the slightest support during the last 20 months.

During those times the republicans rarely listened to the public - they listened to their affluent sponsors, and it is because of this trend toward deregulation and tax breaks to the rich that we tripled the National Debt and completely destroyed the national and international economy. Obama was just barely able to avoid a major depression which the Republicans still seem to want with their dangerous irresponsible policies.

The Democrats during that time did have to stand by and watch as the party in power ran roughshod over them yet they did not allow a single senator to place holds on bills or hold up 20 nominations at once, nor did they filibuster every single bill as the Republicans do now. Before the Republicans regained control of the House there were 490 bills the House had passed waiting to be acted on by the Senate but the republicans were able to keep anything much from being acted on.

The Republicans drove the country off the cliff when they were in control and when they weren't in control they were able to pour sugar in the tank and slash all of the tires. To the Republicans politics is war and they are willing to lie and cheat to keep the other side from being successful even if it means destroying the country in the process.

To make government work and be more efficient the partisan gridlock has to be ended. To do that we should encourage more parties and remove a lot of the financial advantages of the two major parties.

To keep our politicians on both sides from being bought by special interests all elections should be publicly paid and all money should be taken out of politics.

If we went to instant runnoff voting a vote for third or forth parties those votes would not be spoiler votes.

Now about 1/3rd of the country is republican, 1/3rd Democratic, and 1/3rd independent, yet the Independents have no representation in government. The Left wing has no representation in government. That is because of the monetary advantages and because of laws making it difficult for other parties to get on the ballet and compete.

If we had proportional representation the Independents might have some representatives for the vast majority of people in the center.

If we eliminated the filibuster and instead had a simple up or down vote to first determine if something should be acted on, then at least three proposals should be written up, (left right and center) and then preferential voting used to choose the best proposal. (vote 3 pts. for the one you like the most 2 pts. for the second choice and 1 pt. for the one you want the least. Then the one with the most points win. In almost all cases the centrist position would be chosen) This would force the politicians to cooperate to solve the problems of the nation.

As things are now the system is designed to prevent any change and to prevent getting anything done.

By the way the question of why unemployment went up. It is because the economy has been constantly improving so now people who had given up on being able to find a job are finally starting to look again.
12 months ago: It is time to introduce a constitutional amendment that limits the conditions during which a budgetary deficit can be run and even during those times limits the size of the deficit. Furthermore, the amendment must also require that during 'good' times a surplus be run and USED to PAY OFF the debt.

Flat tax, no deductions. Eliminate most of the IRS by eliminating the impossible complex tax code and replacing with simple flat taxes on individuals, families, and businesses.

Businesses would get savings from not having to hire expensive tax lawyers and accountants and taxpayers would enjoy a similar savings.

By forcing a balanced budget, pork would be hard to come by int he budgets and there would be real pressure to reduce costs.

Would some people feel the pain. Yes, but if the greater portion could get ahead then there would be room move ahead.
