This post is not about who better serves the people, the Republican or the Democrat. It's about all politicians using the things you hold dear to trick into thinking they are helping you.
For Republicans, it's lower taxes and smaller government. All other things remaining the same, spending wise, that means more borrowed money, and more debt.
For Democrats, it's more social programs and bigger government. Which, without a tax increase, means more borrowed money, and more debt.
The Republicans say they will pay for lower taxes by reducing government and social programs.
The Democrats say they will pay for more social programs and bigger government and with higher taxes.
But contrary to all this, in the latest round of negotiations, both parties traded away the con side of their platform to get the pro side. Republicans traded away "no new expenditures" in exchange for keeping taxes low. It's a double whammy on the deficit. The Democrats traded away "taxing the rich" in exchange for extended unemployment benefits and more "tax handouts". A double whammy on the deficit.
It's definitely a "Gift of the Magi" situation. You know the one, where the poor lady sold her long beautiful hair to buy her husband a watch fob for his prized pocket watch, and he sold his prized pocket watch to buy her a beautiful hair pin, with which to pin her up long beautiful hair.
If it weren't such common practice, I might think it was merely bad timing, or at the worst bad governing. But this time, following the trends of the past, I have been able to predict almost exactly what was going to be traded for what, and how long they would let the people simmer in their own uncertainty before finally announcing what each side might count as a victory of sorts.
They both say one thing and do another. They are selling your freedom to the money lenders, mainly the Fed. And regardless of what either side says, the deficits just keep piling up.
