Christianity is mocked at times... but this is not one of those times! Not many mockers would like to enter the Octagon with UFC's Jon "Bones" Jones ...or fellow Christians for that matter... ask Rampage Jackson! The only thing that Jon takes more serious than his fighting, is his faith. But are't Christians supposed to be frail and weak?
IF so, Jones didn't get the memo !:]
"God if it's your will then it's already done and I thank you for giving me the victory," Jones tweeted before the bout. The fighter followed the posting with 2 Timothy 1:7, a Bible verse, which reads "For the spirit God gave us does not make us timid,
but gives us power, love and self-discipline."
http://www.christianpost.com/news/ufcs-j...With Philippians 4:13 tattooed on his chest, "Bones" thanks Jesus after every bout... now with a 15-1 record Jones is the undisputed light heavyweight champion of the world! It is interesting how many cry foul... not for fighting, but for faith. Who would have thought that people would react the way they do about merely thanking Jesus... next thing you know is that these "gladiators" will be censored from using Jesus' Name
because it may offend someone...
Truth is there are many Christian athletes in the UFC... incredible people who have overcome incredible difficulties... their's is not a boast, rather a humble acknowledgement of the One who holds them together.
People don't just get up one day a UFC Champion... it takes hard work and pain, lot's of disciplined pain! So it is with being a Christian... one doesn't walk into a Church building one day and that makes them a Christian... no, it usually comes at a very high price, after exhausting every other means of survival, only to end up where you should have been in the first place. And after finding the true value of being back with God...
you won't leave at any price or cost... not by your strength... but by His.
"I can do all things through Christ who strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)Yeah, I was a little arrogant in my post
"Jesus In The UFC" ...sometimes we forget from where we came, and the "types" we were. Like fans in the crowd rooting for their team... but not giving up an ounce of sweat to secure the win... sometimes we get a little over the top. It is good to see athletes win with humility... I have always said I was a bad winner... I guess that makes me a better looser?
I don't know, someday I hope I can win without gloating... I should try winning first !:]
We all want to be on the winning side, fact is there are more loosers that are Christians than one can mention; you might even know one or two (including me)... however that is exactly why God came to this Earth, to save loosers! The one thing I regret most about my youth, is not coming to Jesus sooner... I know my children don't regret my decision.
I am sure glad the God of the Universe hung out with sinners and loosers...
talk about your underdogs... most of us are just "long-shots".
From what I know about Christ, I'm not surprised that Jesus is in the UFC...
I would be surprised if He was not... things haven't changed that much in 2011 years!
