"Transsiberian" is a recent DVD release starring Woody Harrelson and Ben Kingsley. It begins with a young couple ending their visit to China (with their church group), where they had been helping impoverished children. They decide to take the LONG way home. They decide to take the train from Beijing to Moscow (a 6 day journey). Most of the journey is going through the vast Siberian nothingness of snow and cold with a few small towns near the railroad tracks.
The movie's suspense builds steadily until you think it's already peaked again and again. The tension and unexpected occurrences add much excitement. Once the young couple leaves Beijing it is a crazy ride through (pun very much intended) the workings of European drug smugglers, the Russian mafia, gorgeous scenery, torture, Russian drug police, missed trains, attempted rape, gunshots, Russian culture, scars from the USSR, and architecture. This film will keep you on edge the entire time and leave you feeling totally satisfied. Enjoy.
