Citizen Journalist with The Underground

"Citizen Journalism has put democracy back in people's hands. An army of individuals with mobile phones, portable cameras, and blogs is rapidly replacing traditional media as a reliable and wide-ranging source of information... Traditional media keep being preached as the source of truth, but what they lack is exactly the essence of truth: validation. How do you establish what is true form what is false?"

Do you want to be a Citizen Journalist? Do you want to put democracy back in people's hands? Inspired by DrDarko and The Daily Rant & Rave, I thought world bloggers just need an opportunity to post their finds as true Citizen Journalists! Why are we forced to search for a source that panders to our political appetites...
when we can have a "one-stop-shop" for all our info needs... "Right or Left!"
We have all the "right stuff" here on RantRave!

We have Altruist to the left with his "shaky camcorder" ...we have PerfectHorizon with his "hand-held" ...we have OutOfTheBox (well, he really has us) ...DrDarko the "Dark Horse" of multi media ...HueyNewton with Official NASCAR Racial News ...Sunny as our Weather Person ...TCG and Red as our BS detectors ...TB as the religious Whackjob, just to name a few. IF you would like to take a stab at characterization feel free...

This "Underground Tribune" would feast on those items that can't make it through the Corporate Political filters or bureaucracy... we would get it strait from Bloggers on their own sites or social networks. Allowing them the freedom of their own advertisements or donate buttons... for just a small piece of the global village pie!

Mmmm... The Underground Tribune...

4 months ago: Wow! You actually went ahead and registered a domain!

So... Are you thinking on creating a RR competitor or just a blogging news aggregator?

It is relatively easy to setup WordPress with revenue sharing and multiple authors. It is even easier to setup WordPress to collect RSS feeds from various blogs around the net...

In any case, I am interested to hear what are your plans with this...

One word of caution. It is interesting but anything we post here, can and probably will be used against us in a court of law.

Federal judge ruled that bloggers are not journalists and are not entitled to any of the protection and rights people working for large media corporations have.

I wonder how would we feel if we found ourselves in court facing a $10 million penalty?
4 months ago: There must be a way for an independent to be licensed, and license their own reporters...
4 months ago: There are no true independents today. All the so called "independent" and "free-lance" journalists are licensed with some big media corporation or a news agency.

It takes big money to be able to issue licenses...
4 months ago: So "freedom of the Press" is an oxymoron...
4 months ago: Well... Freedom was always expensive. Same thing with the "freedom of the press."
4 months ago: Doc,

As to registering a domain, I am always looking for an opportunity, but it is something I have done before with RR...

4 months ago: Oh my. Registering domains just to redirect them to a single page on RR is really something...

At least you got some great domain names and if you get tired of them, you can always sell them on Sedo.

However, you are just one step away from your own personal newspaper. You can always use your own domain name with free Blogger blog. I started http://watoday.blogspot.com/ just as a test of back-linking, but you can create your own blog with multiple (up to 100) authors...
4 months ago: Doc,

It's going to take me a learning curve... I just started bulding websites with Dreamweaver and don't understand all the "greek" yet. Here is one site I made for a friend...

4 months ago: That is some cool rag you made featuring RR, this site has so much potential, however it got booted off Google... and that is way-not-good!
4 months ago: Hey, nice going with that site. DreamWeaver is powerful but the learning curve is very steep.

I prefer Blogger and WordPress for simplicity. There are a lot of free themes and templates so you can focus on content only. For example, I set-up this site http://www.me2lifestyle.com/ in about 15 minutes and I have full wysiwyg post editor available so I can write as many posts as I like and do not have to worry about HTML, PHP or anything else....

However, you are on a road to becoming a professional. I am looking forward to see what will you decide to do with the Underground Tribune in the end...
4 months ago: As far as I know, RR only got booted off Google News. I hope that it will not get de-listed at Google too...
4 months ago: Hey Doc,

I wonder if we are just too noisy about sensitive political issues here at RR and that is why it was clipped from Google News...
4 months ago: The Underground Tribune is the jumping-off point, but I have another idea I want to bounce of you guys to see if it will hold water, maybe later today... I really like RR for the instant Google placement on topics I write on, pretty hard to duplicate that kind of visibility.

~~I think you meant "producers" not "detectors" but a good idea nonetheless
