This week the Saint Petersburg Times took Scientology to task in a big way by publishing a three part feature on the controversial movement and its leader, David Miscavige. "He is one of the most capable, intelligent individuals I've ever met,” said Marty Rathbun, once a high ranking executive in Scientology, now an outcast and apostate, a liar according to Scientology spokespeople. “A liar and psychotic “insists Tommy Davis, one of the lead spokesmen for the movement who drove home his point by screaming and bounding his fist according to audios released by the Times.
Scientology; which has been attempting to portray itself as a benign, helpful organization in the Tampa Bay area is very displeased with this latest flap. Many executives were in town last week to “handle” the Saint Petersburg Times story, even to the point of allegedly buying up all the papers in Clearwater and surrounding areas to try and soften the impact.
Scientology produced “evidence” that their ex executives were lying by providing testimonies from current members of Scientology, spouses and family members were brought forward to testify that the ex members were removed from their posts because they in fact beat people up on a regular basis and that David Miscavige is too slight and frail to hurt anyone. Utter and complete lies. “This guy (Rathbun) is a f*&#ing lunatic. I’m getting a little angry here!”

The Times has devoted a large amount of space for Scientology to tell their side of the story. I think they have shown as always that they are an accurate source of information on an organization which has a history of deception . Congratulations to the Times, JOE CHILDS and THOMAS C. TOBIN and everyone on the Time’s staff who made this story possible.

35 months ago: “This guy (Rathbun) is a f*&#ing lunatic." I assume this to be true. Anyone who could get that far in the cult of greed and power would have to be.

I also assume Hubbard's a liar. He said that a clear is to a normal as a normal is to an institutionalized (and forgive me if I have a word or two wrong-- I don't have a perfect memory). Rathbun had to be beyond clear. What happened?

So how is it that someone can get so high up in an organization that makes people sane, ethical, happier, more able, purified and literate and let's not forget, superpowered, and still be a lunatic? Could it be that the courses and therapies don't do as advertised?

Why don't they get one of their OT 8's to AS IS the problem.

Really, if it wasn't that decent people were having their lives ruined by this organization, it would all be quite comical.

35 months ago: I'm wondering if that is actually Tom Cruise speaking in the tapes?
Sounds like him.

The big question is.. How does anyone of this is not produced and bogus?

I an record off of the wall crap and post it to the internet in about 30 minutes. Where is the backup?

Hey Frederick;

Well Mr. Rathbun is a true believer in Hubbard's philosophy. He's an OT I'm very sure but I don't honestly know which (and frankly I don't care very much.)

One thing to remember is people in a predatory situation don't really think they have a problem. people immersed in cults don't know they are in a cult. The only way to see it is from the outside.

Also; Saying Hubbard was a liar is a completely redundant statement. Of course he was a liar - he made his living lying to people, he was a writer of fiction. He was a professional liar and pretty good at it from all accounts. Hubbard's problem was that he got wrapped up in believing his own lies and his fatal flaw was he could not or would not humbly take responsibility for what he was doing. He fought back always and this tended to get him in deeper. His organization Scientology virtually took on this trait and that is at the root of their problem. It is funny and tragic at the same time. Hopefully the Times article will send a clear message to the powers that be in Scientology - the Times only scratched the surface. It could be far-far worse next time.
