The king of mark up.

Was reading this morning on Yahoo Finance about things we pay too much for.
Really open my eyes.

"Unless you're filthy rich, you've probably noticed that movie theater popcorn costs an arm and a leg. Still, for some unknown reason, countless consumers shell out the big bucks for this greasy flick-food."

My take on this..

Take a look at some of the items listed, not for the weak of heat!

1. Movie Theater Popcorn. 1,000% mark up.
You can buy a whole box of microwave popcorn for under 3 bucks! So why in the name of fatty snacks would you pay over 5 bucks for a bag of pop corn? I'll tell you why, you ain't ghetto enough to sneak in your own popcorn, that's why! This is a mark up of over 1,000% Unreal! Wish I owned just one of those popcorn stands at Disney land. I would be popping in the cash!

2. Greeting Cards. 200% mark up.
Are you kidding me! A folded piece of paper with a 200% mark up?
Come on get a blank sheet of paper some crayons, it will look like it came from the heart!

3. Bottled Water. 2,000% mark up.
Did you know most bottled water comes from the same well as you get you tap water from? The the bottled water company, ads some "Super Filters" and there you have it. Filter it yourself and save a ton of money.

4. Brand-Name Fashions. Women take note!
These items are marked up by 500 to 1000% Also what really chaps my rear end is the fact, most are made overseas. I have been in a sweat shop in India, where they were making Guess items as well as bargain brand items, out of the same cloth. Just change the stitches and change the tag. BAM a $40.00 difference.

So stop paying too much for stuff, times are hard and ain't getting no better!
Next time you go to see a movie, sneak in a bag of popcorn inside your womans purse. Then you can have enough money to take her to Micky D's after the movie!

These are my thoughts and I'm sticking to them! Crbob

17 months ago: Way ahead of you but great post. 3 of the 4 I don't do to start with, and another I don't do is buy fancy coffees. I do buy popcorn at the movie, on the RARE occasion that I go out for a movie (maybe twice a year), not that I'm afraid of getting caught or don't have a place to hide it, I just like my popcorn freshly popped and still warm.

For some reason right now, I need to go and get some popcorn or take a cold shower! (LOL)

Greeting cards I can get for 50 cents at the 99 cent store.

Bottled Water is nuts, the number of plastic bottles would circle the earth many times. Filter your own and use your own reusable water bottle.

Clothes, there is a great place where nothing is over $5.99 including full suits!

17 months ago: Speaking of mickey D's, did you ever buy a kids meal just for the toy?
