Superstar writer Dan Brown’s new book “The Lost Symbol,” will be released on September 15. Featuring Dan Brown’s bulletproof protagonist, Robert Langdon, “The Lost Symbol” will take place in Washington, D.C. and feature the Masons, an ancient secret society.
Today, the dust jacket cover of “The Lost Symbol” was released, and bloggers have jumped all over it, trying to decipher its riddles. The jacket prominently features a wax seal, containing a double-headed Phoenix, the number 33, and the Latin phrase, "Ordo ae Chao" – Latin for "Order from Chaos."
My own research has discovered that the “Scottish Rite of Freemasonry” has 33 degrees, or levels of secrecy. “The Lost Symbol” was originally going to be named “The Key of Solomon,” after a medieval book on magic originally attributed to King Solomon.
Other hints from “The Da Vinci Code,” Dan Brown’s best-selling book, were two references to the mysterious Kryptos sculpture at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
Now, personally, I’m not a big fan of Dan Brown. His books’ plots tend to be like Scooby-Doo episodes – the innocuous secondary character turns out to be the villain in “Digital Fortress,” “Angels and Demons,” “Deception Point,” AND “The Da Vinci Code.” Dan Brown’s protagonists all have a minor weakness (claustrophobia, for example) and overcome them in a tight situation. Finally, all of Dan Brown’s books claim to be factual, but they contain many inaccuracies and “creative liberties” – I don’t expect “The Lost Symbol” to be any different.
But don’t get me wrong. I will certainly buy and read “The Lost Symbol.” I just don’t have high expectations for it.
Do you agree? Am I a stuck-up jerk? Let me know!
