Visiting family in Sweden, Australian couple Don and Siggy Coopers is not flying to Göteborg like the rest of us would – Don and Siggy love cycling. The epic trip will probably take them most of the summer and will see them pedalling 3000 km between Istanbul and Göteborg. Sadly, they haven't yet worked out a way to cycle on water, so they decided to make the trip to Turkey by plane.

This week, the pair was cycling across Serbia, noting the absence of traffic "Serbia is not the most popular tourist destination." Near the borders between Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, Don and Siggy enjoyed an unforgettable ride through the magnificent scenery of Serbia. "After reaching the Danube, we felt as though we were riding in a travel brochure. The scenery was so stunning. The Danube in this part of Serbia is fiord like, with mountainous banks on either side. We had a lovely picnic lunch in Donji Milanovac, adjacent to the Danube."

Then a long ride brought the pair to Novi Sad, Serbia's second largest city after Belgrade, located in the northern Serbian province of Vojvodina. "We arrived in Novi Sad early afternoon and were impressed with the vitality of the place so we decided to book into a hostel for two nights. At the hostel we met two Aussies cycling from Budapest to the Black Sea so we were able to share ideas over a few beers and great dinner in a fortress overlooking the Danube. Today we will be tourists, relax and look around town."

Don and Siggy Coopers are now riding across Croatia. It's worth following the link to this blog if for nothing else but the beautiful photo of Serbia. From the left-side menu, click on the external link.
