The Lovely Bones Trailer Review: B+

Pros: Intriguing story; solid director; visually compelling.

Cons: Stereotypical characters; could be overly sentimental.

In the Lovely Bones trailer, Susie Salmon gets murdered by her neighbor – but her death is just the beginning. After she dies, Susie goes to her own personal heaven – which is beautiful – and watches her family as they mourn her passing. She also is able to watch her killer (who got away with murder) prepare for his next crime, which may involve her little sister. Will Susie get vengeance?

The Lovely Bones trailer is pretty good, actually. (I could only find an Entertainment Tonight copy – with irritating voiceover – on YouTube. The first link on the left is to a better one.)

Here’s what I like about The Lovely Bones trailer: it draws you in and presents a story of love, mystery, death, and bliss. The visual effects are stunning and the trailer is scary, whimsical, and sad.

Sadly, The Lovely Bones trailer reminded me of I Know Who Killed Me, a horrible horror movie featuring Lindsay Lohan. That’s what I get for renting C-list movies and not reading New York Times bestsellers like The Lovely Bones.

Themes explored in the film include Susie’s coming of age, the 1970s, and the deconstruction of “the American Dream” family. Director Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings) is going to show us heaven, murder, and redemption.

Watch the Lovely Bones trailer. I’m sure it’s going to be a hit when it's released in December.

34 months ago: Everyone wants to go to heaven, but not everyone is going.

I have enjoyed shows like "Highway to Heaven" and "Touched By An Angel" but I realize they can give people false hope when they are taken out of their fictitious context.

No one can earn a ticket to heaven or deserves to go there on their own merit. A lot of folks need to figure that out before it's to late. Jn 14:6
