M. Night Shymalan may not have had a great hit since the Sixth Sense, but one thing is certain; he has a great imagination.

I was skeptical when heard he was directing a live action version of Nickelodeon's Avatar the Last Air Bender series, but after seeing the preview that is starting to roll out in theaters, it looks like he may have nailed it.

I know Shyamalan took this on because he enjoyed watching the show with his own children This should be a great family film with enough special affects to dazzle even the most skeptical.

I imagine the biggest test will be a story line. The cartoon version took several season for all of the different characters to play out their story lines, and for The Avator to fulfill his destiny. Hopefully it holds true to the original, and does not come off as a watered down cinematic flop.

33 months ago: the cartoon did end with a small cliffhanger...it ended the journey, but at the end Zuko asked his father while he was in the jail cell, where his mother is. it wasnt a big cliffhanger, just a small one thus showing us that Zuko's story wsnt over yet,.....i saw that one comming.....

33 months ago: i'm not sure i'd count that- the primary story was entirely wrapped up. where his mom is would just be an "unanswered question"... or at most an excuse for a spin-off.

her disappearance wasn't really integral to the story to start with (they could have just had her die, and it would not have affected things at all). we could just as easily say that "where are the other air-bisons?" is a cliffhanger. would be interesting to know... but hardly something demanding the story be directly continued in the movie.

also, in the interview with M. Night, it sounds like there will be 3 movies... assumedly one for each book.
33 months ago: the last episode of avatar foreshadows upcoming episodes like when zuka says he and aang will rebuild the world. they could make a new series that he is rebuilding the world and making it better
33 months ago: and the Appa's kind werent called air bison they were sky bison or as fire nation calld them air buffalo

33 months ago: thats why i said "small cliffhanger" and i said it also "ended the main journy" as in the ended the plot. but Zuko asking where his mother is, and Zuko's story not yet being at peace is a cliffhanger, i highly doubt its big enough to make a series out of but it is a cliffhanger...i didnt say it didnt have a ending. thats what a cliff hanger is.
