Hooray For Texas!!!

The Texas State Board of Education was finally able to correct a long standing imbalance in school text books Friday. Social studies and U.S history text books were brought back to a more central position after a long period of left leaning curriculum in these fields. Democrats as expected raised much fuss over this. They appeared to resort to the usual tactics of throwing accusations and it seemed much effort was used to insert racism at every possible angle, but this presented little success.

This is no doubt one of the greatest achievements of this year. There has been a concerted effort to rewrite U.S history in a politically correct fashion for some time now and though this small victory cannot undo previous damage done, it is a step in the right direction. Hooray for TEXAS!!!

24 months ago: That was an excellent post Cypress. I'm glad you put a link in. This is such a great accomplishment though extra coverage doesn't hurt, agreed?
24 months ago: It has been a long time in the making. Now in Texas the kids will be offered something the liberal and unGodly hate. Funny thing is they can't do anything about it for another 10 years. Ain't that the best laugh of all? Yeah, we are real happy that the kids will get to learn about the "Gold Standard" as opposed to the Federal Reserve Note and who was responsible for creating the worthless FRNs.

24 months ago: This is only a victory for ignorant & superstitious religious supremacists who want to transform a secular America into a conservative religious junta ruled by an imaginary three headed sky wizard who demands bleeding and death to sate his anger. If there's any doubt that this Texas Board of Education is all about promoting evangelical Chritianity as opposed to education, check this YouTube video of the board meeting. Quotes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdhGK9aYj...

"Whether we look to the first charter of Virginia, or the charter of New England…the same objective is present — a Christian land governed by Christian principles."

"I like to believe we are living today in the spirit of the Christian religion. I like also to believe that as long as we do so, no great harm can come to our country."

It's shameful but don't worry - I doubt we'll see any religious based textbooks anytime soon except where they're already used - in evangelical Christian religious schools.
24 months ago: Let me go throw my chicken bones to read your thoughts Mark.

...ignorant & superstitious religious supremacists...

I thought you were all for democracy in action.

Now you don't like majority rules?

What is that phrase you like to say?

"Pot Kettle"?

I'll even say your children can opt out if your so strongly opposed.

They can sit in the library during the classes which offend you texting or sexting each other.

Wait, I think the Board is looking into mandatory cell phone / text disruptors next. Maybe they will have to read a book.

24 months ago: I noticed you ignored that shameful video display of Christian supremacists offering up sectarian political prayers at the public school board meeting - essentially wiping their behinds with the United States Constitution in favor of their literalist Christian bible doctrine, and thumbing their noses at anybody who isn't an conservative evangelical Christian.

...I'll even say your children can opt out if your so strongly opposed...

No, that scenario won't happen because they'll be sufficient legal challenges to ensure the psuedo-science/history textbooks as envisioned by these religious zealots never make it to the public schools.
24 months ago: Oh, your going to bring out the LIE that the Constitution has "seperation of church and state" written somewhere in it's text.

Where exactly does it say that the state should seperate from church?

You know as well as I do that what your referring to is there will be no official religion such as the Church of England.

Get off that dead horse.

24 months ago: are you going to bring out the LIE that the Constitution has America as a Christian nation in it's text?

Here's a question for you? Who said the following:

"no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office"

and than who said this:

"I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof, thus building a wall of separation between church and state."
24 months ago: Uh, the first is written in the "Constitution". Article VI, section 3

The third clause of the Article provides that no religious test shall be required as a qualification to any public office. This clause could be interpreted to mean to prevent the discrimination of people with differing religious principles in regards to office holding, and to disallow laws which would give such a representing religious organization power over policymaking by excluding others whom do not share the same religious beliefs.

I don't see your point. We are not talking about an "Office". Which by the way I'm sure you know means ELECTED OFFICE of the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

I stress FEDERAL GOVERNMENT.

the second was written by Thomas Jefferson" Jan.1.1802 not in the Constitution.

You made my point with your quotes.
24 months ago: Here is a quote printed by "Time" in 1930...

How funny would this be if we taught it in our schools?

Huh? Texas could have 10 Senators and the Federal Government could not say a word? Not unless they want to let us succeed and give us back parts of Oklahoma, New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas and Wyoming.

Here is the 1930 Time article...enjoy...

24 months ago: Jakarta, when you read the 1930 Time article. Notice that it was proposed by a democrat to steal power away from republicans.

Would that not be the funniest of all jokes if the Texas republicans played a democrat card from 1930?
24 months ago: That is very interesting Cypress. Whether Texas ever did it or not I would think it is a nice little wild card to have in hand. It is also interesting that so many far left liberals are going nuts over this yet the changes are pretty basic and standard stuff. In my opinion there is no "right" leaning here but rather bringing the books back in line from an unfortunate "left" leaning.
15 months ago: Hey Jakarta? Please check in from time to time.
