There is no question that the economy is a mess in this country and that its citizens are demanding a change. Voters recently turned control of Congress over to Republicans who promised to reduce spending and get things done. Their unwillingness to work with Democrats though has led to recent threats of a Government shutdown.
In response, Senator Barbra Boxer and Senator Bob Casey are leading the charge for more responsible government. New legislation they introduced yesterday will seek to end the current protection the President and members of Congress enjoy when they fail to do their job - keeping government running.
Unlike other federal employees, the President and Congress continued to get paid even in situations where the rest of the government shuts down due to their inability to approve a budget.
From an 99ers perspective, I cant be more pleased with this legislation and would encourage Congress to extend a similar one to the filibuster. If the national debt is enough of a problem that that millions of Americans are no longer deserving of unemployment benefits then Congress and President Obama need to be held to a new standard!
