Russia has the power to resolve the entire crisis.

Foreign Minister Avigdor Libeberman, met with Putin on December 7, 2011. During that meeting. Avigdor Lieberman is a Russian Jew and speaks Russian. He discussed with Putin the serious crisis with Iran and Syria. In the meeting, he said to the Russian leader: "You have the power to resolve the entire crisis in Syria and in Iran. China has agreed, behind the scenes, that if Russia takes the lead, it will follow suit."

This means that Iran cannot survive without the support of China and Russia. That support could end simply by Putin stepping on the world stage, and as Avigdor Lieberman said, "Being the savior of the world at this present moment." I don't like the comparison.

Putin despises both President Obama and Hillary Clinton. Mrs. Clinton has done everything to try to undermine and embarrass the Russian leader. On the other hand, Mr. Lieberman has done everything possible to build bridges with Putin—not because he agrees with him, but because he realizes the seriousness of the situation.

The fact that President Putin is flying to Israel is extremely significant in view of the intelligence information. If Putin takes the bait, then both the Syrian crisis and the Iranian crisis could end. If the Russian president can get the credit for it, a multitude of lives will be spared.

He is more distrustful of Putin who ran the KGB. It is true that without Russian support Syria would have more problems, but you have to realize Putin's incentive. Syria's deep water port at Tartus allows Russia access to the Mediterranean and is a major military and submarine base. http://www.rferl.org/content/explainer-w...

The entire region is just turning into another sectarian religious war. The Alowite Sect that Assad belongs to is opposed by the majority is which is Sunni. Assad is fiercely suppressing the revolution and murdering innocent civilians because he knows that if he is overthrown there will be Sunni slaughters of the Alowite minority.

That is why the Saudis and Quatar are arming the rebels, but Saudi Arabia is home to extreme Wahhabist Sunnis that sponsor most of the terrorism in the world including Al Queda. So our CIA is there trying to insure that weapons get to nonsectarian rebels and do not go to Al Queda.

This is another huge giant mess and I think Obama and Clinton are doing a good job of walking a tightrope that will get rid of a dictator, help the people, and not get American troops involved which would blow up tensions in the entire region. Perhaps they will work out a deal that would insure the Russians their deep sea port if they pressured Assad to leave and find some way to prevent the slaughter of the Alowites when he goes. Diplomacy works much better than militarism. http://www.dailystar.com.lb/News/Middle-...

Bush showed us how easy it is to screw up if we go in with guns blazing without having a clue about the complexities of the situation.
