Well I'm finally glad to see that we can disagree and have some fun with it. Although, it seems when you look at comments posted on the You Tube video, those environmentalists still have to spew the vitriol. If you look at the comments on The Huffington post site it's the same.

Does it always have to be about Rush's past addiction? Why does it have to be about his weight, even though he lost it? Can't we just have some fun every now and then.

http://www.examiner.com/x-19823-PostPartisan-Examiner~y2009m9d25-WATCH-VIDEO-Rush-Limbaugh-runs-over-Al-Gore-with-car

Notice on the Examiner page, they always use the overweight Jack Nicholson "The Shining" type facial freezes for Rush? Look at how svelte and energetic he is in the video. For a corporate mouthpiece, he cracks me up.

32 months ago: Is that an NBC thing. I find that a lot when I want to view some of the "Classic" SNL clips
32 months ago: Let me see if I've got this down. First, the players:

1. Rush Limbaugh, a drug addict and hate radio jock. Prior to being discovered to be a drug addict, Limbaugh railed against drug addicts regularly, calling for them to be arrested and inflicted with harsh prison sentences. During the oxycontin scandal, he called for his privacy to be respected. Once it died down he went back to calling for strong prosecutions against drug abusers.

2. Al Gore, a former Vice President and environmentalist. Has been accused of hypocrisy for the size and energy use of his home, despite it also being his office, and despite the fact that he purchases his electricity from green sources such as solar.

Now for the sequence of events.

1. The hypocritical drug user produces a reprehensible skit in which he runs over the former Vice President with his car.
2. People in online forums point out the hypocrite's hypocrisy.
3. The act of pointing out the hypocrite's hypocrisy is derided as "vitriol."

Yes, it does always have to be about Rush Limbaugh's past drug addiction, because he's still indulging in "do as I say, not as I do." It will stop being about his drug addiction when he starts granting other drug addicts the same leeway he demands for himself, or has himself subjected to the same harsh treatment he demands for other addicts.

I'm not that fond of hypocritical moralizers who don't hold themselves up to the same standards they demand of others.

32 months ago: It is easy to let a legal drug become an abused drug. It can happen without it even being noticed by the abuser. But even so, Limbaugh referred mainly to the illegal drug culture, heroine, cocaine, crack cocaine, meth, which not only ruins the life of the user, but leads to the deaths of dealers and innocent bystanders, and the destruction of entire neighborhoods.

It's OK that libs are quick to point out that Van Jones *used to be* a communist, and are willing to give him forgiveness and a free pass, but let's remember, Rush is on the wrong side, so he can never be forgiven of his victimless crime. He was not promoting the use of oxycontin for all, but Van Jones believes everyone should be forced to live by Van Jones' standards.

Yeah, boy. Lets talk about the more sensitive political ideology.

Do you no the high rate off addiction to Herion in the 70's by Vietnam Vets, some studies say, was due to the legal use of Morphine when they were injured.
Do you know how many people have Chronic back problems and get addicted to the Vicdin they are prescribed by there doctor and theeir doctor stops them cold turkey. I don't have time to find these, but I know they have to be high numbers because I know a lot of people who have been addicted this way.

As predicted by yours truly earlier this week.

"He is a big fat idiot and he cant drive. He tries to cover up his weak driving skill by intentionally throwing the race.

Rush Limbaugh pwned by a girl!"

Can we be spared exposure to airheads that have nothing to contribute the green auto interest of this list?

idn't watch the clip. No reason to see a s#%thead lie and try to come off to the "common" people as an understanding guy. Everyone knows what kind of dung he slings every day.

Those are examples of vitriol, and Al Gore is an Enviro-Fascist. Not an environmenntalist, there is a difference. And he was also a former VP that took campaign donations from a foreign nation (China) that is and that my friend is illegal. It also can make one question his allegiance to this nation, which I know he has none because he abdicates a One World Governance.

32 months ago: and you being as Bleeding heart just took the fun out of this with spewing your vitriol. You are not as inteligent as you think you are.
32 months ago: OOTB, it's the hypocrisy. Where has Van Jones been a hypocrite? Where has he said, "It's OK for me to be a communist, but not you?" I personally don't care about Rush's drug use, any more than I care about Larry Craig's gay sex. I don't think either is shameful. In fact, if an addict can admit to his problem, seeks treatment, and cleans himself up, it's commendable. But Rush's diatribes - which were directed at all illicit drug use, not just crack - amount to a demand that addicts of any stripe be thrown in jail and have the key thrown away. This makes him a huge hypocrite, and I can't stand hypocrisy.

So until he walks his talk, he's nothing but a blowhard who deserves it every time his hypocrisy is brought up. He has no credibility, so when he tries to trounce someone else's credibility, he can expect it to be thrown back in his face.

My dislike of hypocrisy is bipartisan, by the way. I'll happily denounce liberals caught in a "do as I say, not as I do" situation, too.

@Billyberoo

Like I said, until he drops the hypocrisy, he deserves to be called out as the blowhard he is every time he comes up. I have sympathy for anyone who suffers from addiction, but I have zero sympathy for an idiot who demands harsh treatment for every addict but himself.

As for Al Gore, what the hell is an "enviro-fascist?" Are you just appending fascist to everything these days? Do you even know what the word actually means, or do you mistakenly lump it in with "socialist," "communist," and every other -ist you can think of, regardless of what the dictionary says the word means? I should do another language rant, this time focusing on ignorant misappropriation of words.

32 months ago: Once again you follow Saul Alinsky's rules for radicals.

Rule 4: Make opponents live up to their own book of rules. “You can kill them with this, for they can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.”

Rule 5: Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It’s hard to counterattack ridicule, and it infuriates the opposition, which then reacts to your advantage.

I have Countered with Algore's faults and will not get sucked in by your ridicule.

According to Alinsky, the main job of the organizer is to bait an opponent into reacting. “The enemy properly goaded and guided in his reaction will be your major strength.”

I will from now on point out every time you follow his rules.

32 months ago: Van Jones was a hypocrite because he tried to hide his communism, and pretend to denounce it. He was just stupid, and thought he could talk "among friends", in front of a video camera.

Now, are you saying that it was commendable for Rush to check himself into a rehab, admit he had a problem, and get himself cleaned up?

We all are subject to display a bit of hypocrisy, now and then. Even those of us who blog. Take it from a guy who has almost total recall.
32 months ago: @OOTB

Yes, it was commendable for him to get rehab. Of course it was. Anyone who can beat the disease of addiction is to be commended for it. All he has to do now is stop being a hypocrite about other drug addicts.

@Billyberoo

I'm never read Saul Alinsky's work, although his "rules" are certainly interesting as you've posted them. I do particularly like Rule 4 because he's absolutely correct; those who demand unrealistic standards from others generally can't live up to those standards themselves, but act all affronted if anyone notices.

Since you can't counter the content of my comments (ooo, alliteration) and have chosen not to demonstrate that you actually have a grasp on argumentation beyond citing whatever rule you think I'm following, you're resorting to insulting me by saying I'm not "inteligent" [sic]. Sigh...

32 months ago: Is he still railing against illegal drug use? If you have any quotes after November of 2003 please share them.

And you know I caught "I'm" in the above post. He he, don't you just hate that? When pointing out a typo, you make one yourself. Not making fun, just thought it was funmy. <----8:)
32 months ago: Hey, I never claimed not to make typos. It's rare, but it happens. I just find it funny when people misspell words while insulting someone else's intelligence. It's ironic. And in my experience, the first person to engage in that kind of ad hominem attack makes multiple such mistakes. Heck, he made four in that one paragraph. Here's a corrected version: "And you, being a bleeding heart, just took the fun out of this by spewing your vitriol. You are not as intelligent as you think you are."
32 months ago: As for Rush quotes, I'll track some down. I can barely stomach the guy, but I'll suffer for your edification. :)

32 months ago: Thanks. Be sure to come back to this post even if you can't find any, to let us know he's changed his ways.
32 months ago: @scotmanster

Haven't had any, but thanks. There's a huge difference between the odd typo and consistent, flagrant misunderstanding of the difference between "there" and "their" or "lose" and "loose," which is what that rant was about. If you have a typo in a comment, it looks like you're typing too quickly. If you have three dozen typos in a comment, including massive, repetitious misuse of several different words, it looks like you're a moron.

And if you make a habit of such language abuse, expect to be mocked whenever you insult someone else's intelligence.

@OOTB

I could have sworn Limbaugh had gone on other drug tirades, but I can't find them. Actually, I haven't been able to find a single drug-related comment from him since his legal troubles in 2006. I highly doubt he's come out swinging as a champion of compassionate treatment for drug addicts, but I'm willing to grant that he may have stopped being a hypocrite on the topic after getting caught.

Thanks for the "retraction". It takes character, and I think you have good character. Not that I'm a big fan of El Rushbo, I think his motives are not nearly as pure as he lets on. I was surprised, however, at his enthusiastic endorsement of the electric car he was driving. He has been very vocal about the logical fallacy of electric cars "saving the planet", and to hear him say he loved driving it leads one to believe either a: He is willing to admit when he is wrong, or b: He has signed a lucrative endorsement contract.

I never said you were not intelligent, Just that you think you are more than you are.
I posted this to just actually see what reactions would be. Yours was exactly how I thought. Just seeing if I would get:

"You know it was kind of amusing watching the clip, you are right it's about time we've added a little humor into the debate"

But you reacted just like those on the sites I added.

Next, you haven't read Alinsky's work, yet going back through my memory of your comments you follow a lot of his rules. My question is were you "indoctrinated" to debate this way?? You know: "mmm, mmm, mmm, Barack Husein Obama"
32 months ago: @Billyberoo
What you call "debat[ing] this way" is what everyone else calls "debating." I keep bringing up these things called "facts" and you keep accusing me of following Alinsky's "rules" by using them.

Example: Above, you tie "environmentalist" to "fascist" to create a portmanteau: "enviro-fascist." I pointed out that to do this requires a willful disregard for what either word actually means. Here's the definition, a la our friends at Merriam-Webster: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.

So I pointed out that tying that to environmentalism (2nd definition, and definitely the most commonly used: advocacy of the preservation, restoration, or improvement of the natural environment; especially : the movement to control pollution) is ridiculous. I doubt you could define your term, "enviro-fascist," using anything that even resembles the definitions of either word.

In return, instead of demonstrating with any sort of debate eloquence that you can, in fact, logically tie the two together, you just used what amounts to an ad hominem attack, accusing me of following someone else's "rules," as if that invalidated my point.

@OOTB
Oh, I'm not letting Rush completely off the hook quite yet. I can't find anything he's said about drugs one way or the other since 2006, but considering the treatment he was espousing for addicts prior to being caught, I'd like to hear him say three little words on the subject: "I was wrong." Now that would make me grant the guy a little respect.

Ooo, electric cars... There's another juicy topic...

32 months ago: Noni, You aren't as up on your little pet-names for political ideologues as I thought you might be. You know, like birthers, neocons, teabaggers, etc. ad nauseum.

Your Miriam-Webster definition is but a very narrowly focused interpretation of a word that scholars have been struggling to define for quite some time now.

Word History: It is fitting that the name of an authoritarian political movement like Fascism, founded in 1919 by Benito Mussolini, should come from the name of a symbol of authority. The Italian name of the movement, fascismo, is derived from fascio, "bundle, (political) group," but also refers to the movement's emblem, the fasces, a bundle of rods bound around a projecting axe-head that was carried before an ancient Roman magistrate by an attendant as a symbol of authority and power. The name of Mussolini's group of revolutionaries was soon used for similar nationalistic movements in other countries that sought to gain power through violence and ruthlessness, such as National Socialism.

1. often Fascism
a. A system of government marked by centralization of authority under a dictator, stringent socioeconomic controls, suppression of the opposition through terror and censorship, and typically a policy of belligerent nationalism and racism.
b. A political philosophy or movement based on or advocating such a system of government.
2. Oppressive, dictatorial control.

An enviro-facist is someone who advocates not only preservation and restoration, but also conservation, of the environment and natural resources, employing an oppressive, autocratic, central authority.

32 months ago: Although many forms of fascism have arisen since Mussolini's reign, the Nazi form had the strongest environmentalist leanings. Admiration of nature was one of the hallmarks of Nazi philosophy, and has been key-holed by modern fascist movements. Part of the overall success of the Nazi party was the support of environmentalists and conservationists, whose ideals were abdicated during the buildup to WWII.

"When seeking to understand the environmentalism, vegetarianism, and animal rights policies of Nazi and neo-Nazi groups, one must be aware that these ideas are in no way divorced from these groups' emphasis on Arthur de Gobineau's ideas of biology, eugenics, and social Darwinism. Their concept of racial hygiene was seen as cleansing the human genetic stock, much as ecology cleans the environment. All of these concepts have a common thread, emphasising the importance of nature, and man's duty to behave as steward."

32 months ago: Wow, that is a terrible, terrible article. Poorly written, and full of [citation needed] tags in the very paragraphs you quote. And it has a tag at the top of the page indicating it has needed a check for neutrality since 2007. OOTB, you ought to be embarrassed quoting an article like that. Especially one that engages in some obvious reductio ad Hitlerum. (http://www.fallacyfiles.org/adnazium.html) In a nutshell: Hitler did it, therefore it's evil. The logic breaks down when you apply it to things like breathing.

32 months ago: Not embarrassed at all Noni. I'm beginning to believe, like Billyberroo, that your main tool is to ridicule your opponent. You are deliberately trying to make this seem as if I were stating solely that the Nazi's were environmentalists, therefore environmentalism must be bad. That is a deliberate twisting of the anecdotal second post I made. It's getting to where if anybody even brings up Nazi's or Hitler, they get accused of reductio.

The definition of enviro-facism, which is synonymous to eco-fascism, was in the first post I made on the topic. Eco-fascism is not a new concept, and is a term used by both the left and the right. But anyway, if you didn't like that particular reference, here is another one:

http://dictionary.babylon.com/Ecofascism

Eco fascism, can be used in two different ways:

1. For specific elements of radical environmentalism which are openly affiliated with neo-fascism, or which share conceptual similarities with fascist theories. It is used critically from an external source, and somewhat less commonly used from within as a self label, to refer to various white nationalist and third positionist groups who incorporate environmentalist positions into their ideology.
2. The term is also used as a political epithet by political conservatives to discredit deep ecology, mainstream environmentalism, and other left and non-left ecological positions, and less frequently by political leftists to discredit environmental movements they see as non-left such as deep ecology.
