On the following website,

http://www.cnsnews.com/news/article/sebe...

it is being reported that Obama, President of these United States, is taking the initiative to solve a problem that, unbeknowst to us ignert citizen creastures, has been a desperate problem.

The problem is 5-year olds who "can't sit still" in a kindergarten classroom!

Obama is calling it the "Race to the Top Early Learning Challenge".

Obama's secretary of education, Ms. Sebelius, is saying Kindergartners who can't sit still in their seats have to be trained to sit still in their seats.

You reckon Ms. Sebelius ever taught Kindergarten, much the less in a classroom.

My goodness. What a fantastic leader Obama, President of these United States, is!

The Obama administration is planning on spending $500,000,000.00, to "deal with" 5 year olds who cannot sit still in Kindergarten.

First of all, what's the problem? I'd be worried about a 5 year old that could sit still. Granted, I don't live in a blue state full of whiney liberals, but what is the problem with 5 year olds that cannot sit still?

Who'll bet me their solution is to drug the 5 year olds like they drug those children with the make believe "ADD" hogwash?

Drug the 5 year olds and teach them to sing praises to Obama.

Good grief.

The article says that the problem is the readiness of the kids. Some are just not ready for 1st grade. That is probably because preschool is so expensive, so parents just throw their kids into school unprepared.

The poor teacher is trying to teach kids to read and do math but a lot of the kids are at the stage where they are just learning that spaghetti doesn't go in their ears.

I have a lot of respect for grade school teachers It is an incredibly hard job.

Red you are correct of course that there is nothing wrong with kids being active, and I also agree with you that far too many kids are diagnosed with ADD and given drugs. The problem is that these hyper kids require more one on one time and with 40 in a classroom they can't get, it so they become disruptive.

The solution is to have a lot more parental involvement, first of all teaching their own kids how to pay attention, and secondly by volunteering to work in the schools helping the overworked teachers.

I mostly agree with you.

I see the solution as closing down the federal departmen of education and letting local communities deal with 5 year olds.

or go to a private school with a voucher.

Back in my day - back when most cars had manual transmissions, and few people bothered to lock their front doors and banks and pawn shops were the only places that had bars on their windows - MOST people where I grew up did NOT go to kindergarten. But we got along OK. Nobody expected 5-year olds to sit still and not fidget. And we had some fairly large classrooms that still managed to be places of learning.

But that was years and years before the teachers' unions had had an opportunity to totally dumb down the entire populace. Back then very few incoming college freshmen needed to take ANY remedial classes. I understand that these days a large percentage of freshmen need to take more than one remedial class. Quite an improvement, that.

A five year old that can't sit still probably has other issues going on, issues that with the proper attention can b e addressed early on. You may want to take note that an educated youth is the foundation for a prosperous nation. It is not only money well spent but a wise investment.

So we try to add additional time to a student's study years. Well, damnit, when do we get to Play? From 0-5 we fiddle around, we can play but we're not experienced enough to organize our play. We get to be 5 and * bang * into school and the tedium of conforming.

This, combined with educators desperation, unusual demands by a small handful a parents, leaves a teacher feeling like a junior police officer. And in addition the kids must be taught!

It is time to take a look at how we educate and how to more effectively educate. Our present standards are all about conformity, we are better off with standards that produce effective education.

So perhaps what you intended to convey was "Welcome to Orwell's 1984".

I lived through Orson Wells' 1984. It was during the Reagan years. Not a bad time to be alive.

You know as well as anyone the last real President we ever had was Kennedy. He tried to be a real President and look what happened to him.

What you and 99% of the rest of Americans don't realize is there is no left or right, no Republican or Democrat. They're playing both ends against the middle. The middle being the American public who has absolutely NO clue as to what is really going on in this world.
It's not gonna get any better, it's only gonna get worse.
The elite have relegated this country to 3rd world status. They have turned attention towards OTHER nations.
It's all about resources. and the American dream is being scrapped and shelved because it was the Great Experiment. IF it can work here, then the elite know they can make it work anywhere else.
But first they must bankrupt the entire country and the other govts. of the world will fall as well.
We're not getting out of this one. Why? Because it's gonna take a real miracle to get us and we are responsible for ourselves.

What you also do not realize is that the republic is is well and truly FUBAR. There is no solution except the one the founders said must "not be [used] for light and transient causes". But it is clear to me that whomever is running the show is making our national government increasingly destructive of the very rights it was originally constituted to secure and self-evidently has as their goal to " to reduce [us] under absolute Despotism". Therefor the time is fast approaching when we must stand up like men, "dissolve the political [bonds] which have connected [us]" and exercise our Creator-endowed rights and perform our Creator assigned duty to "throw off [the existing] Government, and to provide new guards for [our] future security".

All that remains is for those of us who see the coming storm to prepare for it for who fail to prepare will surely die in the maelstrom!
10 months ago: Remember that scene in the Wizard of Oz? where you hear the line,"Pay no attention to that man behind the curtain." Well, that's exactly who you DO pay attention to.

Think about this: Military Industrial Complex.
Do you ever listen to Alex Jones and his radio show online? www.infowars.com. IF you do, then you know that it's already too late. People think life will go on as usual, but it won't. There was a 104 yr old man on tv last week talking about how bad things were before and he even said it's gonna be worse later on. He said,"These folks ain't seen nuthin' yet. It's just gettin' started." And he's right.
