We have several bird feeders in the yard at my house and we enjoy a variety of songbirds as they appear outside our windows. We see lots of common chickadees, cardinals, blue jays, wrens, finch and occasional Towhee and a lot of woodpeckers. But, I must admit, my favorite guest at our bird feeders has to be the squirrels.

Most bird feeding enthusiasts take great strides to prevent squirrels from emptying their feeders and chasing away the colorful birds that they're meant to attract. But, for me, the antics of the squirrels are far more amusing than even the rarest of birds at the feeder. They way they stretch and contort themselves to reach the tiny seeds without falling to the ground is extraordinarily amusing and, let's face it … they're just so darned cute. Plus, as they eat and eat and grow chubby by the day, they become even more comical. The squirrels in our yard have no real predators to watch out for so they frolic about with a spectacularly brave attitude. Their relatives in more remote areas aren't so lucky … they have to deal with rattlesnakes.

A team from the University of California Davis is working to understand how squirrels interact with rattlesnakes …

13 months ago: I'll write the story about a robin I raised, Dia.
You will appreciate it I'm sure.
Animals are so special. I had gone to an aquarium not so long ago, and they had a section for birds. You had to wash your hands before you entered the room to keep the room sanitary and keep germs away from the birds. The birds will sit on you sometimes. They had one smaller parrot that was grey in color, and she was absolutely sweet and kept away from the other birds. Because of her personality, the caretaker took special interest in her and watched over her. She is a beautiful grey parrot. I never saw one like her.

That's interesting. I love animals, too, but I don't have a feeder. Yours must be very nice to see all the animals there.
Outside my window I can view the squirrels playing all day. One took a liking to me I suppose, so it sits by my kitchen window at the same time every day at lunch time. I don't feed it because I'm afraid that the food may attract other animals, and it may get dependent on the food. I'm trying to figure out a way today, so I gave in and left it a small piece of fruit. It got the food all over the place. I don't think I'll feed the squirrel again.
I feel bad because it doesn't look very well, and it is kind of small, but it is so cute.
The only other animal that I see walk pass is the oppossum. They look kind of pink and are hairless. I do see a lot of doves, robins, and cardinals, and the small wrens. I figure the oppossums aren't good for the squirrels. Squirrels can be are very aggessive in the parks. I had to run away from the picnic tables many times because they come right up to you and try to steal food.
