The nuns have taken to the streets in London by the thousands! Is this some sign that we all must heed and follow? Are they on their way to Las Palmas restaurant in Calexico, California to see the image of the Virgin Mary on a griddle, and maybe celebrate Cinco de Mayo with holy wine?
The answer unfortunately is no. There was a great number of runners who donned the nun's habits to support and take part in a charity run for the children's charity "Barnardo's." The event tied in with the premiere of the musical "Sister Act" which is opening in London.
I think this is a hilarious way to raise money, and it would have been very fun to watch, minus the bearded nuns with hairy legs. All participants were given the outfit to wear for the race, though I'm sure it made its way into the pubs following the race. I don't know how I feel about that, but it is all for charity. The race course spanned many scenic spots, as explained on a London website, "Starting in the City and taking in Tower Bridge, South Bank, the Tate Modern, London Bridge, Blackfriars Bridge and the Thames Pathway, the nun run London event is four miles long." Good cause, good fun, though I would have opted for "Nacho Libre" garb myself.
