"...unlike neighboring states, which have overwhelmingly voted against same-sex marriage, the outcome in North Carolina is less than certain and is generating quite a controversy... The Tar Heel state is the only one in the Southeast that does not ban same-sex marriage in its state constitution. But Republicans, who now control the state legislature for the first time in 140 years, are hoping to change the situation."

I can't wait for the barrage of intolerant comments against people exercising their God given democratic rights to vote... a vote that could mean banning gay marriage in North Carolina. The first thing the liberals chant is that gay rights are being taken away... what rights? As accurately put by our Huey Newton... Gays never had the right to marry, because marriage was defined by thousands of years of tradition to mean one man and one woman. No rights are violated, unless you take into account the rights of traditional families being attacked for their God given rights and traditions.

When anyone supports tradition or their right to religious freedom, there always needs to be those with an agenda to destroy those values. If the homosexual community wants to have the freedoms to live the way they want to, I say all the more power to you... but when someone else's freedoms take away the religious rights that have been a standard and enjoyed for thousands of years... that is unconstitutional.

And as far as a religious right, there isn't an established historical religion that has demonstrated gay marriage... simply put marriage is between a man and a woman. Regardless how the political blows in these last few years in comparison to the total history of mankind... if it is change you want... I say you're too late!

Quit trying to redefine Biblical marriage...

The US State Department can point out countries that encroach on religious freedom, but it can't look itself in the mirror...

"State Dept. Chides Eight Countries on Religious Freedom... While Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has issued previous reports on religious freedom, Tuesday's report represented the first time the Obama administration has published its list of the world's worst violators. "It is our core conviction that religious tolerance is one of the essential elements not only of a sustainable democracy but of a peaceful society that respects the rights and dignity of each individual," Clinton told reporters at a press briefing."

1st I have no problem with a state making it's own rules on marriage.

2nd I also have no problem with the states that have legalized gay marriage.

3rd: Christianity is not the only religion that celebrates marriage, and Christians needs to stop trying to govern based on a religion. It is Un-Constitutional for the government to define marriage based on religious views. The STATE governments should determine whether all people are allowed to marry or if only men and women. The only way to ban gay marriage Constitutionally is to stay out of it and let the states decide as they have the power to use religion to govern at the state level (this is because if I don't like my state's religion I can move to a different state).

4th: Don't be stupid/hypocritical like Texas: Texas doesn't recognize gay marriage, BUT they sure as hell recognized gay divorce???? Well if you aren't married you cannot get divorced and Texas will eventually have a long battle because of this gaff.

5th: The federal government should simply define what taxation benifits are extended to "married couples" and stay out of the rest of it. That way if a gay couple get married in Iowa there is a very clear "here are your benefits" statement.

6th: States that ban gay marriage would still have to recognize those who were wed in other states if they were for example visiting the state and there was an accident and one member of the couple was hospitalized. This is not a question of state rights here; its the same reason that your Kansas drivers license allows you to drive in Washington.

7th: Ultra conservatives need to stop being hypocritical. You cannot spout off about freedom and small government but then ask the government to develop wide spread gay marriage legislation. It is an affront to state rights, individual rights, liberty and it also makes the federal government much larger because they then would have to regulate all marriage.

...kind of contradictory, care to elaborate? I like the description "civil union" because it doesn't use the religious term marriage. IF you want government to get out of religion, then get it to stop infringing on religious rights, traditions and freedoms.

So now you are saying that you would prefer to say "Civil Union" because it bothers you and YOUR version of Christianity. That is really getting narrow on allowing Religious Governance; there are countries that are governed by a single interpretation of a single religion (i.e. Iran).

If your particular church & it's version of Christianity don't support gay marriage then fine, they don't have to marry gay people. But if a different Christian Church does support gay marriage and will marry gay couples then that is their choice.

You are the one trying to infringe on the religious rights and freedoms of all the Christians and Christian Churches that will marry gay couples. You are also trashing the freedom of religion granted to other non-christian churches that will marry gay couples.

What I said is not contradictory at all. The Federal government has no right to ban Gay Marriage as it would be supporting the establishment of one brand of one religion as a benchmark for what "marriage" is. States on the other hand have the right to Constitutionally ban gay marriage. This was established this way because if the Federal Government establishes a religion and you don't like then you would have to leave the country to get away. If I live in South Carolina and they ban gay marriage and I don't like it I could move to Iowa or California or whatever other state I do like.
8 months ago: PH,

I am sorry for the typo it should have read "uncivil union" ...furthermore there has never been any such thing as a "gay marriage" anywhere until now... a classic redefining of "marriage" a standard word used to unite a man and woman. Just wait until the definition of "life" is redefined by this human hating NWO...

It is about how the government of the United States defines it...and any attempt to define it based on the religious views of any one or multiple groups is Un-Constitutional.

If a state wanted to ban gay marriage that is fine. But if a state chooses to allow it then there is nothing you, the federal government or any church, action group or anyone else can stop them. Gay marriage is legal in many states now...if you don't like I would simply suggest not living in them. If you are anti gay marriage there is a simple solution to that too...don't marry a gay.
