As a member in good standing of the Cult of Apple, I’m eagerly awaiting January 27. In case you’re completely oblivious, that’s the release date of the new Apple Tablet. (Apple iPad? iSlate? The name hasn’t even been confirmed yet.)
Many independent sources have stated that Big Daddy Steve Jobs will unveil the Apple iPad on Wednesday. But other details are somewhat lacking. MacRumors.com and other blogs have compiled lists of features they believe that the new tablet will have, including:
- A ten or 11-inch wide screen.
- A multi-touch, iPod-like interface.
- The ability to surf the web via 4G or wireless.
- Apps galore – games, business applications, and time-wasters.
- A focus on books/magazines – Apple’s attempt to compete with the Amazon Kindle.
The iPad will have a software-enabled keyboard, which will light up and react to nearby fingertips, and other navigation will be through the touchscreen. The Apple tablet device is sure to sell like hotcakes at its $999 price point, too. Apple cult members will line up for the new device, just like they did for the iPhone a few years ago.
The Apple iPad picture on the left is believed to be realistic, but since it came from a blog, not Apple.com, you should take its appearance with a grain of salt. The same goes for the French Apple iPad commercial – it has all the earmarks of a real Apple commercial (a catchy beat, splashy graphics, and a pithy tagline) – but I’m not sure if it’s Apple-endorsed. In any case, I’m really looking forward to the new Apple iPad!
