New 99er Bill - The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Act

The Republicans kept saying that they would support extended unemployment for the 99ers if it is paid for in the past. Well Congressman Barbara Lee and Congressman Bobby Scott found a way for the funds to pay an additional 14 weeks for 99ers.

It is called the H. R. 3404 "The Emergency Unemployment Compensation Expansion Act." This bill is strictly for the long term unemployment people that have exhausted all benefits and still have not found employment in the work force. It would help since the job market is in critical condition in the US.

There are approximately 15.1 people that are unemployed and many have been over of work for more than six months. The Reps Barbara Lee and Bobby Scott will be holding a press conference on Wednesday, February 9th to go over the details of the bill. The American 99ers Union will be present during the press conference tomorrow.

The Congresswoman first introduced another bill H. R. 6556 when President Obama and the Republicans did not include the 99ers in the previous tax cuts and unemployment bill at the end of 2010. They realize this bill will be a challenge in the house, but some effort is better than none at all.

15 months ago: Not to rain on anybody's parade, but I doubt this will ever make it to the floor for a Vote and if it did it would no doubt fail.

This past December Obama gave the Republicans the continued Bush Tax Cuts for their millionaire and billionaire buddies. The Republicans in turn gave Obama 13 more months of funding for EUC Tiers I to IV. The Republicans surely have not forgotten this and they will let us know that they are "behind unemployed Americans 100%" which is "why" they passed that law.

There is NO Tier V coming. I wish there were, there are millions of Americans that need a break, but it's not going to happen.
15 months ago: Even they said it is a long shot, but this is the most effort we have seen from any politician in a long time.

The way things look the Gov. is turning away from the needs of the people. Anyone who thinks that Tier 5 isn't a necessity, it's okay with me, but we still have to pursue our fight for it because we get a good picture of what is going on.

We are really getting into deep water with this situation, and Government not showing concern. I hope to keep optimistic they come up with a solution for everyone's benefit.

15 months ago: I second that Smartygirl. We still have a voice and I don't think it is going to quiet down for a long time until something is resolved. I don't think people understand that 13 mos was not for everyone and that people fell off because they didn't get 99 weeks but maybe 73 or less. The Repugs didn't do anything for anyone. They think they are fooling people.
15 months ago: No chance of passing. Just heard.
15 months ago: They could start by not giving so much money to other countries. I heard on TV we have given Egypt 1.5 billion. What for? 1.5 billion would cover Tier V and a whole lot more for our unemployed. We need to start helping our own more than we are helping other countires.

15 months ago: American 99er's are the largest growing unorganized group of people in the nation. The people of Egypt, via protest, removed President Mohammed Hosni Mubarak from his office. Why don't the American 99er's show the same passion? Oh sure we send a couple of emails to our House and Senate members, but the messages are simply blocked. We place calls to the same Congress people and a 20 year intern runs interference. We start a blog, or two, or three, but no one reads them except other 99er's. We can sit back and do nothing and that's exactly what will happen, nothing. Sure we want a Tier 5, but are we willing to protest or take action for it? Probably not, THAT WOULD TAKE AN EFFORT. Why should Congress listen to us, we're not doing anything. No major network has picked up on our story, nor placed us in the homes of American's nightly. We are absolutely no threat to the government what so ever. We continue to allow the Department of Labor to report their concocted unemployment reports and sit back and say "oh well, what can I do"? Depending on who's report you read there's anywhere from 1 to 15 million 99er's. Many 99er's out there helped to form the non-violent protest movements, the love-in's, or the sitting in's. I AM NOT SUGGESTING VIOLENCE HERE, but why haven't 99er's packed the National Mall in D.C.? Let's show America exactly how many there are of us. Shatter the government's unemployment numbers. If we continue to take the same measures we are taking now, we are going to get the same results we have now. Nothing. The 99er's biggest problem . . . getting up from our comfort zone and taking action!
