If you have not been aware of the devastation inflicted upon Nashville and
the surrounding area from the recent flooding it is because for the most
part Nashville has picked its self up and dusted its self off. America
should look to Nashville Tennessee with pride and admiration, it has
handled its self very well all things considered.

I've never lost everything to a disaster so I really can't speak for those
who have. I have lost most everything in a burglary however so I do feel I
can speak with some authority on the matter of having most everything
destroyed or lost. It was a shocking and quite depressing experience to
find you suddenly have little left of what you have worked for so long. I
suspect this same feeling on a much larger scale affected thousands of
Nashville residents when they found their homes completely devastated after
the flood waters receded. Yet for the most part we have not heard the moans
and groans of hopeless victims pleading for government hand outs.

I suspect most of us have experienced working with or going to school with
someone who constantly complains or demands attention to his or her
problems. The old saying "the squeaking wheel gets the oil" is it seems
very often true. I have seen fellow workers spend as much time it seemed
complaining and getting concessions, which they deem necessary in order for
them to actually be productive, as they did being productive. All the while
other fellow workers would never miss a beat day in and day out. They would
always be on time and ready to go. Always be productive regardless of
problems that arose along the way. These are the persons who do the most
but seem to get the least attention. It is in my opinion these type of
people who actually made America great. The complainers and constant
victimized basket cases just followed it the trail beat down by those
Americans who sometimes get knocked down but get right back up and are more
the stronger from the experience. This quality of character has presented
its self in my opinion in Tennessee during the recent flooding they have
endured.

We can all be victims from time to time. Many of us have been knocked down
from time to time. The difference is how long you stay a victim. In my
opinion one should only very briefly be a victim. Then you should very
quickly move into the survivor mode, the re-builder mode, the wiser from
this experience mode. There are so many positive places a victim should
move into as soon as possible that anyone who remains in a victim mode for
to long has become a victim of themselves. This does not mean we should not
take help when it comes. If government assistance is available by all means
take it. The difference I see is that some people wait by there devastating
event for someone to come by and pick them up off the ground while others
roll up their sleeves and immediately begin picking themselves up off the
ground. If help comes along great but these people will survive and move on
one way or another. This is the spirit America was founded on and the
spirit I hope never dies in this country.

Nashville Tennessee you and your flooded neighbors have reflected true
American can do spirit. There are those of us who are with you in spirit
and prayers, doing for ourselves and not waiting for the government or
someone else to carry us. We see you and commend and salute you.
