Mother Nature Shaking Up The White House

I thought it was a little funny that Mother Nature had an earthquake that close to the White House. I hope it shook up those politicians a little bit, to get them moving on getting this country going. They're all probably building fall out shelters now, at least someone will be hired for a job.
It is a good eye opener for those politicians that they can't control everything. With an earthquake you never know when the next one is coming or where it's going to hit. Who knows it may have been Mother Nature knocking at their door to let them know she may be sending Hurricane Irene next.
It is unfortunate to think that a natural disaster hitting Washington D.C. and creating panic and chaos would be the thing we need to wake up Capital Hill.
And another earthquake hit in Colorado, most of our stuff is in CA or Alaska. Things are changing, and like I said I hope Capital Hill is waking up, because Mother Nature doesn't care if your a Republican or Democrat. It's nice to see them get a scare of reality thrown at them once in awhile. .
I'm sure the flooding in Pennsylvania didn't phase them, because it wasn't close enough. But I bet if another earthquake hits or a hurricane heads there way they would have Obama in his little fall out shelter so fast, he would wish he jogged. I hope Mother Nature has a plan and they are involved. It would be nice to see the politicians scramble for their livelyhood like people in Hurricane paths or tornado paths, that live with it every season. They wouldn't know what to do with themselves. They would have to rely on there "money" to get them through, unlike the American People who rely on each other to help them through the hard times. Neighbors handing out clothes and toys to families and inviting them into their homes for a hot meal. That's the American way of life, when a disaster strikes people show up from hundreds of miles just to help people through, with whatever they need.
I'm not sure any of our White House guests would survive a survival course. They would have to ask the 'Goog Ole Boy' down the road what to do. Yeah, I'm glad no one got hurt from the earthquake, but I sure like where Mother Nature sent it.

9 months ago: Wait until Irene hits during high tide in New York / Boston. You think they can handle 15 feet of water? I have been through everything in S.E. Texas since the 50's. Old pro at Hurricanes.

The difference is that engineers in quake zones design the buildings to survive them. Japan builds things to withstand quakes. I was amazed seeing videos of entire houses being washed away after their 9.0 quake, during the Japanese tsunami, and they didn't fall apart! It looked like you could pick them up after the flood and put them back on their foundations.

Chili is similar. Chili went through a 9.5 earthquake which is the strongest ever recorded (something like 100,000 times what Virginia had). They learned from the experience and build things to withstand earthquakes and they drill the people so they know what to do.

The people back East have earthquakes so rarely they don't build to survive them. What is really scary is that our nuclear plants there were only designed to survive a 6 earthquake. Virginia's 5.8 quake came uncomfortably close to that. http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/html/na...

The two nuke plants close to the epicenter shut down as they were supposed to, but one of the 6 emergency generators the plant depends on to circulate coolant didn't work.

Our nuclear plants were only designed for a 40 year life span. The radioactivity builds up and also causes things to become brittle and to corrode, but the Nuclear Regulatory agency is routinely licensing these 50 year old plants for another 25 years.

The Indian Point nuclear plant in New York sits on top of two fault lines that the plant's designers didn't know about. It is rated the most likely to have a catastrophic accident and it has 17.5 million people within a 50 mile radius that wouldn't have much of a chance to evacuate.

Here is a list of all of the plants so you can see how safe the plant near you is. http://www.thedailybeast.com/articles/20...

9 months ago: The ground on the East Coast is older and more intact. The rocks also generate the energy. It shakes and rattles more of an area on our Coast even if it is similar in size on the West Coast. I heard a siesmologist report on this. My front door almost flew off the hinges, and I didn't know what was happening. The sound was very strange, and it also caused stress and tiredness afterwards.
9 months ago: Irene projected to take a more westerly track right to downtown N.Y.C. and then pound Boston with the "Dirty Side". I'm going to be guled to the live broadcasts starting Sunday morning. 15 feet of water in Downtown N.Y.C.?

Boats floating down Wall Street? Can't wait to see them ask the world for help after a "little blow". Funny how that whole "What comes around goes around" thing works.

9 months ago: Sure, that is if the television and radio communication doesn't go down, you can be glued to the broadcasts. I don't like the thought of trees going down and electric going off.
My God, I hope there won't be 15' of water in the City.
I think those guys deserve a little of their own medicine thrown back at them.
9 months ago: How would you feel about rebuilding those 2 bedroom shacks in the Hamptons that cost 800 K on the taxpayer dime?
9 months ago: Rebuilding the Hamptons is going to be a hard sell to hard working Americans that never get a vacation after watching our overlord and the vacation queen spend our money on a Martha's Vinyard rendezvous. Yeah, it will be a tough nut to crack.

9 months ago: Yeah it does. I don't remember seeing you or your Yankee ilk down here during the strikes in the last 20 plus years. Guess what. We rebuilt on our own dime.

Good luck with your little bit of misfortune. Don't count on a single dime from south of the Mason Dixon line.

We are still waiting on your check that was in the mail.

We don't have any misfortune. It's a STORM. That's Life.
I wish this Country was united. and people were kind to each other. That's the problem with this Country. We bear the stigma of the politicians misdeeds.
I'm so sick of the divisioins in this Country and fighting over money.
I don't want to spoil Christine's nice writings.
She writes very positive and has helped with her suggestions.
