Massachusettes State Senator, Scott Brown has posted on his Facebook page that he will be making an announcement today at 2:00pm in front of the State House regarding the open US Senate seat. As former White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card has appeared to opt out of running, one can assume that Senator Brown will be announcing his candidacy. How viable will he be? I'm not sure at this point. It is possible that he is only running to get his name out there for future campaigns.

The jury is still out on whether or not Republican Christy Mihos, who is currently running for governor, will drop that bid to make a run at the US Senate seat. Besides that fact that he is certainly the most viable between himself and Senator Brown, if Mihos were to drop out of the gubernatorial race it would prevent a costly and divided primary race between himself and fellow Republican and Harvard Pilgrim CEO Charlie Baker.

On the Democratic side, US Rep. Michael Capuano from Somerville, MA has taken out nomination papers. Capuano that he is the only candidate who "closely mirrors Ted Kennedy’s positions on important issues of war and peace’’.

Attorney General Martha Coakley who would be the most viable candidate for the democrats if she had the money, is reportedly meeting in Washington with representatives from Emily's list (the group that funds female candidates who support abortion rights) to presumable see what kind of financial help they would be able to offer.

While neither side has the affairs in order at the moment, both seem to be taking shape and getting organized. One would assume with the more prominent names that are coming and going and then coming back again, that there is a lot of back room dealing being done.
