One least known things about God is that He is a singer... but should that come as a surprise? The one who anointed the lips of choirs and soloists alike... should not have a voice that would melt the entire Angelic hosts? There are two references in the Bible that speak of God singing over His people... one is with rejoicing.
"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save. He will take great delight in you, he will quiet you with his love, he will rejoice over you with singing." (Zepheniah 3:17)
Amazing that our Creator would be taken with us... so much so that He would make a melody in His Heart and voice a poetic love song for you and I... seems we are getting to know this God we have only heard about. I said the first ref to God singing was in rejoicing, what about the other? Another thing that can make us sing... is sadness. God too has written a ballad of heart-wrenching pain... the kind that only comes with being forsaken and forgotten. This is the second reference...
"Let me sing for my beloved my love song concerning his vineyard... What more was there to do for my vineyard, that I have not done? When I looked for it to yield good grapes, why then did it yield wild grapes?" (Isaiah 5:1-7)
Indeed what more could God have done for his beloved? What more could God have done for us? Yet what have we done with our freedom... secured our independence!
Like teenagers slamming the door behind them... we too have left God in search of other pleasures... no longer enamored with the majesty of Heaven... we became seduced by the pleasures of Hell. The Blues! God has sung the Blues... losing us was the loss of His life... while tossing out our ancient "decorations"... the "baby Jesus" angels and all... we have unwittingly also tossed out our peace and good-will toward men.
Somehow we didn't know what we had... like the song "Mary did you know" ...we never took the time to sift the relationship from the religion that was preventing us from the blessing of knowing God first-hand. I love God now, not for what I have gained by knowing Him. I love God for what I know about Him... how jealous He can be for loosing me to another; to one who only came to lie kill and destroy... and to know He used to sing over me as a youth... only to be pained by my rebellion... taking the rap for a crime He didn't' commit, loosing me because of lies about Him that weren't legit...
I never knew... but now, as a parent I do.
May your life be blessed with all of God's presence and joy, this Christmas and always!
From our home to yours... "His Heart, our hands!"
