On the far right there are the "small government" ultra patriots that say that an over bloated government that is taxing Americans to death is taking away their freedoms one by one by miles of ever increasing red tape of legislations. On the far left are the modern hippie greenies that say our world is being sold out to corporate greed and that one acre at a time America is loosing all its wild and natural spaces to corporations run by ultra rich tycoons. Most Americans can't relate to either extreme since we live under the presumption that death and taxes are inevitable and that we are all entitled to the American dream in the mean time. Which is why we spend the largest percentage of our lives working to these ends.
So it comes to some surprise, at least to me that both groups as far apart as they may be meet in the limbo land known as off-grid living. Off-grid living is a simple term assigned to anyone who lives day to day in a manner that does not make use of public utilities. In this limbo land we can find people who have lived as nomads with backpack and tent in tow for decades never once laying their heads under a permanent roof, preferring to sleep under a thin fabric on public lands underneath heavens stars. There are also the ultra wealthy whom have put their millions to the ends of establishing 100% seclusion. They have used their resources to buy not only anonymity and seclusion but independence from society.
There is also those of average or limited means that have purchased land, built homes or positioned their caravans amidst natures remaining fortresses. These too have rejected societies demands that we buy the bulk of our needs and instead have chosen to procure energy, water, food and even shelter from nature instead. In this limbo land of Off-grid living its refuges have found solace and an independence long sought after by Americans not brave enough to rely on their wits first!
