Is Baby a Pea or Preservative?

You are what you eat, Right? More importantly what's your baby? An additive or preservative? If I had children I would love to say neither. Working at an early childhood education center, I admire the lengths parents go to make sure they have a healthy baby.

One of the things I admire most are the parents who grow and prepare their babies food at home. Not only are these foods organic and clean of pesticides, but they look and smell so dang good! When I prepare some of the infants meals at work, I hate the look and smell, I feel like it would be feed to a cat. That does not go with the homemade foods, one of the moms makes fresh snow peas with home made rice cereal, it smells amazing!

There may not be a huge health difference when using pre made baby foods like Gerber, and making the baby food at home, but I would feel that there is piece of mind in knowing exactly what is going into your baby.

Don't get me wrong, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using pre made baby foods such as Gerber, seeing as a lot of people just don't have the time to grow there own baby food or the time to prepare it. I am sure its much easier to grab the jar out of the bag and let your kid dig in!

I myself hope I have the time to grow and make my someday children's food, I will know that they are a fresh apple, not a preserved preservative.

Babies do not have all the taste buds adults have so they can eat some things that taste terrible to adults without complaining. That isn't to say that they do not taste and I know that the do prefer things that have good flavor over things that taste like burnt popcorn so it is only logical that they would prefer home grown or home prepared food. Even if what you feed them is something that you prepared for the rest of the family, it can be fed to babies, if properly prepped so that they can consume it, remember, they don't have all their teeth yet!

All our children (4) ate from the table, we made sure it was cool enough and small enough for them to gum and swallow and not too spicey or too bland. Mostly veggies but also meat when old enough and when it had been cut to very small pieces.
