Interesting Read

I just finished reading a very thought-provoking book called Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks. It was historical fiction about the Bubonic Plague. The story was told from the perspective of a house maid who served the minister and his wife. The plague spread to their small town, and the minister had everyone pledge to not leave the town in order that the plague would not spread any farther.

It was really eye-opening on the beliefs and ideals of the 1600s. It was even more interesting to learn that the author actually based the book on a real town in England whose minister had them pledge to stay and confine the plague! Anyway, it's a good read, but be wary...the death toll is more than I could keep up with, and the accounts of the dying are pretty gruesome!
