Apparently the Drew Barrymore coming-of-age action flick
"Whip It!" has come and gone. I myself saw it 3 weeks
ago in Perris, CA, and my date and I were the only people
in the theater at 2:00pm on a Saturday (tickets just $5!).
Actually, I went into the cinema wanting to like the film...
AND I DID! I would describe "Whip It!" as "Ghost World"
meets a white-trash version of "Bend It Like Beckham".
Outcast teen trying to find her place in the world, and
at-once trying to respect her parents' values but still
discovering herself.
I like strong female characters, and thus, I would include
this film with "Whale Rider", "Rabbit-Proof Fence" and
the above-two mentioned films as being a good example
of this genre'.
It may have gone to either the bargain theaters in the
bad neighborhoods and/or DVD by now, but if you get a
chance to check it out on the big-screen, you should
do so.
"Whip It!" kicks **** in my book! Do yourself a favor
and check it out. At least you'll better-know what
a "Jammer" is and does!
