I love this guy's way, he refuses to see himself as anything less than just a man. He's not trying to trade on any issue that might give him an advantage, not revising history to present himself as victimized...and surely understanding this...all men are basically the same. The black man is no better nor worse than the white man, who's no better nor worse than the brown man, etc. We are capable of unutterable depravity and cruelty toward one another as well as compassion and understanding.
Letting go of all the little crow bars we use to try and pry things our own way is a good start.

I think people are free with the use of the Jim Crow references, and the Nazi references, but where are the comparisons to the Cesar Chavez/Marxist antics of these protesting law breakers? The opposition to the illegal immigration laws are appalled that the influx of Marxist leaning migrants might be stemmed, and possibly even reversed.

It is true that the illegals are causing many problems but the Arizona law is going to cause more problems than it is going to solve.

The only way to "solve" the problem is with a comprehensive national immigration program and the Right is resisting any solution at all with all of their might.

You need to figure out what to do with the 12 million already living here. Most of them pay taxes and have become good productive citizens, support local schools and economies and keep Social Security and Medicare from REALLY going bankrupt. They also have kids who have become legal citizens, so is it good to split up the family? It would be impossible to round them all up and kick them out or imprison them anyway, so why not provide a way for them to become legal? (Pay a fine, learn the language, get an education)

The population is getting older and we are having less young people to support the pensions etc they rely on. These immigrants would solve that problem.

Whatever happened to:

"Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

That was all for better or worse. I won't judge whether any of that is good or bad.
But I will judge the disingenuous comparisons of that migration to those who steal across the borders, make impudent demands, claim not to be Americans, but often confess they are here to "re"claim what they contend is their land. So be it.
This nation's border were truly drawn in blood, as most others have been. Perhaps what we are seeing is a rising of those who are violent and motivated enough to take back by force what was taken by force. I don't know.
Perhaps we are grown fat and lethargic, overcome with the guilt of years of having lived so well?
Perhaps we no longer have the stomach to hold on to what is universally kept by force of arms in this world...any bit of property.
Laws are fine, treaties and borders are wonderful...but ultimately every bit of the power behind any of that is a gun.
Mao wasn't being ruthless with his statement...he was simply uttering an unalterable truth about this world and its system.
A hungry man will outfight a fat man everyday of the week.

Once/if the borders are sealed the millions here illegally will most probably find themselves dealt with in a compassionate manner.
What angers, no enrages, many Americans is both the Fed's unwillingness to do so...whose seeming political resolve is drained by a group of folks who defiantly abuse what should be a privilege and then almost dare the US to do anything about it.
Most folks are gracious to guests, very few like people that pick your locks, eat your food and then, when the police are summoned tell the cops...you can't arrest me...and they don't!.
The cops (Government) end up being as large, if not larger, source of this rage than the presumptuous one.
It's all a matter of agendas.
If those that believe sovereignty has passed away as a quaint anachronism in this New World Order, then let them be the first to tear the locks from the doors on their own homes, and come out from inside their gated communities.

Since Obama got into office, they increased the immigration forces to a record 20,000 and enforcement is up. The number of illegals coming into Arizona is down 18%, and a million fewer illegals crossed in 2009 than in 2008.

I think this entire brew ha ha is pure unadulterated politics because McCain and the governor are up for re-election and facing strong challenges from ultra right wing zealots, so they have to appear tough on immigrants.

24 months ago: Which when using your numbers...The number of illegals coming into Arizona is down 18%, and a million fewer illegals crossed in 2009 than in 2008...means 4 million did...??? Do the math if 1 million is 18 percent then 4 PLUS million make the other 82 percent. So did those 4 plus million 82 percent make it into the US or not?

Great, Southern California, Southern Arizona, Southern New Mexico and Southern Texas get to help you promote your San Francisco style politics and logic.

Do you think that once in Southern California, Southern Arizona, Southern New Mexico or Southern Texas they will "Stay There"?

Yeah...Right...

24 months ago: I think the 18% reduction was just in Arizona and the 1 million figure was national.

The number of illegal immigrants living in the United States dropped to 10.6 million in 2009 from 11.6 million in 2008, the sharpest decrease in 30 years and a second straight year of decline, according to a Department of Homeland Security report released this week.

The point is that the entire issue has been blown completely out of control for nothing but pure political reasons, and has become narrow minded hysteria driven by racism and ignorance.

See this article about the study by the non partisan, Public Policy Institute of California which turned down the heat a bit.
