I Love 7-11

I love 7-11. It is the only 24 hours, 7 days a week store within 15 miles of my house. Actually it's only 2 miles away. They have EVERYTHING. They literally have thousands of items. Anything you need, they will have it. It will be slightly pricier and in a smaller quantity, but they'll have it or something just like it.

I love going whenever I wake up to get my coffee and cigarettes. Or sometimes I go real late at night to get cigarettes. Plus I've seen some real funny stuff, some real weird stuff, and some downright depressing stuff. It's always an adventure at my local 7-11.

Last Summer there was this eccentric old drunk nicknamed "Cowboy Dave" that would be there ANY TIME I was there. He just sat in one of the chairs outside the store. What I did not know is that he was the only homeless guy in my town and he was there for weeks hanging out. The staff let him sleep in the bushes on the side of the store.

It was terribly sad one morning when I went for coffee and cigarettes and found that Cowboy Dave had finally drunk himself to death. Apparently rigor had already set in before they found him. It made the local community furious that he had been allowed to be homeless in our rich town, but he would've drunk himself to death anyway. We would sometimes have conversations and he always said hi.

Also, the employees of every shift know me at the store and they know my preferences. It's a little like "Cheers" except I'm out of there just as soon as I scarf my doughnut and finish my coffee and/or cigarette or occasional scratch-off ticket. Even though 7-11 is corporate, it feels like I have my own personal store. I feel sorry for the employees (because of their low wages), but they always conduct themselves with dignity and usually joke around with me a little bit too. 7-11 is my personal corner store, and I love it.
