There is a very simple way to save this country. You round up all the people in the country that take the any of the following people seriously:

Glenn Beck
Sarah Palin
Bill O'Reilly
Sean Hanity
Any Republican
Any Conservative
Any Evangelical Christian
Any "Birther"
George W. Bush
Richard Nixon
Ronald Reagan
George HW Bush

You take all the idiots (conservatives) and send them to Texas...then we build a giant wall around the entire state, remove the State of Texas from the Union and move on with our lives in peaceful civility.

16 months ago: Fun idea Perfect. There is a lot of talk about Texas wanting to secede anyway so all we have to do is convince people that the rest of the country is socialist and all of the nutjobs will flock to the state and shut the doors behind them.

What all of these people have in common is that they have all been paid to manipulate their kind with a huge propaganda effort paid for by the rich and the corporations. All of the media except PBS is owned by the conservatives and they even pressured Keith Oberman out, They have hundreds of Conservative "think tanks" that feed the talking heads and hate radio talking points that promote their corporate and affluent interests. The dupes that have swallowed their propaganda hook line and sinker, do not even realize that 95% of the people are getting screwed for the benefit of that 5%.

We have a government that is purchased by corporate and affluent interests and that government runs for their benefit even if it harms the country and the majority of citizens.

The only way to save the country and restore democracy is to get all money out of government and make it illegal to receive any outside funds from any special interests, and to restore the fairness doctrine so the media cannot propagate propaganda without challenge.

15 months ago: It's not exactly the same...Conservatives have been catering to the ultra wealthy forever. Further, conservatives historically have been quite literally terrified of change.

Changes have taken place, and thanks to the conservatives throwing the anchor out, dragging their feet, whatever metaphor you like, change has been gradual. If the headlong rush to progressivism had been allowed, then just like the USSR, we would have been a dissolved nation by now.

15 months ago: The Soviet Union collapsed because they decided to go from a very deeply embedded communist system and overnight went to a totally open economic system...it was a total disaster.

It is foolish to assume what would have happened if conservatives weren't terrified of change.

15 months ago: Who is to say that the Soviet Union didn't collapse because they waited too long to open trade up again. The loosening of the capitalist system was a last ditch effort to correct the horrendous impact the communist system had on the many economies they absorbed and drained. No matter what they did, it was too little too late.
