It was 1897 when H.G. Wells published a science fiction novel titled, "The Invisible Man" and in 1933, Carl Laemmle Jr and Universal Pictures produced a horror movie based on the book with the same name. In the movie, a Scientist played by Claude Rains discovered the secret to invisibility using a concoction called "monocane" and while it allowed the good doctor to be completely invisible, it had a rather unpleasant side-effect in the form of insanity. In the end, the now insane Scientist is mortally wounded by the police and on his deathbed he confesses that the science of invisibility should be left alone.

Some sixty years later and after numerous remakes and sequels, real Scientists have ignored the fictional waning to leave this type of science alone and may have discovered the actual secret to invisibility; that being the creation of a three dimensional invisibility cloak that can hide objects by bending light waves. One of the applications as indicated by the picture is to hide valuable objects such as gold bars, but of course the potential for hiding chicanery, whether it be criminal, social, political, military and otherwise is an application that I'm sure the Scientists would not rather discuss.

Whether or not insanity will result is to be determined but the pundits, comedians and those demanding that we go back to the gold standard before it all disappears will undoubtedly have something to say on this unperceivable discovery.
