___ April 03, 2011 - Sunday ........... Hello everyone. I would like to write this rant to tell travellers that I'm going to India. I'm actually going to Mumbai, India. I wil do my best to go to India every year -- GOD willing !!

]]] I'm basically travelling to India to : 1. experience the culture 2. To meet women 3. To sight see; 4. To take a lot pictures; 5. To keep an eye on a potential wife -- I'm 40 years old and single; 6. and to meet new friends; 7. To see how people -- city dwellers and villagers -- live. 8. and to see how some New York Times articles are true.

]]] Basically, I would like anyone and everyone to respond to me on some tips and ideas and help / positive information about me travelling to India if you have been there before. Important NOTE : I'm not rich and I don't want to live in luxury hotels. I'm not even upper middle class. I'm more lower middle class. When I go to India, I want to live amongst the people.

]]]]] I will be travelling with my back pack; 2. My 15" Laptop; 3. Voltage converter; personal and medical stuff; 4. money -- $1,200; 5. Camera; 6. Digital camcorder; 7. Note book and pen and paper; 8. Extra socks; 9. Map of Mumbai, India; 10. etc.

Learn how to say please and thank you before you go, it's all about respect. There are beggers there but politely and firmly say no. It's a fantastic place so just enjoy yourself.

Definitely learn some of the language before going, if you don't know it already. Bring a small translation book.

When I went to Spain I had an International Driver Permit. It's something to consider getting before you go even if you're not going to drive. It translates your DL into several languages so you don't have to worry about language barriers in certain situations. Get it @ AAA for $17 - don't have to be a member.

I'd have some type of backup for money. Do not carry it all in one place and put the larger bills in the middle with ones on the outside. Carrying $1200 cash plus your laptop, camera, backpack, makes you look like a tourist, and a target.

Whatever is recommended about preventing travel diarrhea and so forth. There are some cool cups that have water filters in them. They're cheap to expensive. Can't hurt.

For cheap living I've heard hostels are good. Never stayed in one though.

Take more pictures that you think you need! Have fun!

Learn some of the language thats the polite and respectfull thing to do.
Money goes along way so make sure you have a tight hold of it as there are beggers everywhere.
Some deoderant is a good idea too.
