In the attached youtube video, there is a possible solution to a big part of the oil problem in the Gulf.

It's easy, cheap and it just may work. It may keep the white beaches clean and save the entire region's economy.

It really may work, except, since Obama didn't think of it, they'll never consider it.

Alas.

(Too bad those guys don't talk like somebody from the Northeast.)

UPDATE - 20 months ago
In addition to the Hay solution, I have figured out a way to plug the leak!

Look at the new picture!

In addition to using Hay to soak up the oil, look at the new picture on how to plug the leak!

20 months ago: Good idea. Peat moss works well also. Beats the heck out of BP's workers wiping off individual stalks of grass with rags.

I think we will have lots of time to figure out what works because this stuff is going to be washing up for years.

We agree.

Although I did hear they were finally able to shear the pipe off to try and put a new fitting on it.

That whole capping it idea just doesn't seem all that probable to me. One foot of water I think is equal to something like .433xthe height of the column of water. So, given the depth of the ocean at that particular point that means there's an insane amount of pressure pushing down on that leak. However, the oil pressure is still high enough that it can blow right past the ocean pressure. What can we put there to over come that? Going to have to figure out how to keep pumping.

Although they may have already started that, we get no news here so I don't know.

Now that BP has a cap on the well they should be able to use something like the junk stop thing to fill up the leaks around the cap due to the unclean cut. Then they should be able to pump cement in there and shut it down.

I wonder if they really don't want to cap the well because they are able to pump a bunch of oil out now even if a lot leaks. All of that oil they can suck out is money in the bank.

Supposedly the final solution will be the relief wells that won't happen till August, but they have to hit a very small target and they are something like 18,000 feet down. The first efforts almost always fail which is why the administration insisted they do a second relief well.
