there is a story that Washington D.C. is having problems with many of their snow plows not working.

Even with the operating snow plows, they are having staffing problems with the snow plows that do work.

You think this same Washington D.C. bureaucracy might have considered that it might snow this winter and prepared accordingly?

You think a similar Washington D.C. bureaucracy may be able to anticipate what is necessary to run a health care system for 200,000,000 people?

Sure they will. No problem at all.

24 months ago: I will poke my head in here. So red you think that because the snow plows are not working too good in DC, that that means that all governments are bad? I don't follow your reasoning.
DC rarely gets snow so they don't budget as much for snow removal equipment and maintenance as does Minnesota or Montana. Is that hard to understand. The main point is though, that if you had your way and government didn't exist except to feed the military and give tax breaks to big business, then there would be no snow plows at all.
And you probably are saying that this proves that there is no such thing as global warming because it is cold out now, but you would be wrong. The global warming scientists predict Changing weather patterns, which means more big unexpected storms like these. This storm and the others have been driven by El Nino, which is warmer than usual water in the Pacific. That warm moist air is hitting the N.E. now.
While the East and South are getting hit by storms, Vancouver had to truck in hundreds of loads of snow so they can have the Olympics, and when Atlanta was freezing it was warmer in Anchorage. Climate Change means Change from normal weather patterns. Get It?

Government is necessary. Period. Okay. Can we agree on that? Let's put that to bed.

Where we diverge, I say government must be limited. Very, very limited. It's called Freedom.

And yes, a private company plowing DC's streets would do it better, cheaper, faster, etc.

Government is unable to and incapable of functioning properly. Period.

The global warming, or climate change, or global cooling is a Hoax. The snow in DC is immaterial. (Wake up.)

24 months ago: How many snow plow companies do you know of? Since they only work a couple of months out of the year it wouldn't be feasible.
On the other hand I have seen the garbage trucks outfitted with plows, and standard dump trucks fitted with plows and spreaders to do the sanding. Doing double duty defrays the cost a lot. A government agency can afford to outfit these trucks a private agency would not.
Private agencies doing things cheaper is a myth. There are two types of people in the world, those with a conservative world view are motivated by money while liberals are motivated more by the desire to do good works.

Conservatives in government do lousy work and resent their jobs because they know they can get better pay in the private sector. That is why conservatives always think private agencies outperform government agencies. They think everyone thinks like them.

Liberals do good work in government because they are motivated by helping the public. That is why liberals make better public servants than conservatives. Governments run by liberals outperform private agencies and can do the same jobs faster and cheaper because they don't have to make a big profit like the private agencies do to satisfy their stockholders.

When Reagan and Bush were in power they filled the governments with conservatives that hated big government and they filled their agencies with incompetent ideologues which created self fulfilling disasters.

The way the real world works, when the government is not there, private enterprise is. It's like water running down hill. A person or a group of people would have a snow plow and start plowing. They'd get paid and be able hire someone to drive their 2nd truck. They's buy gas and hire the mechanic to change the oil....etc.....

In the summer, they would refit their trucks to haul trash, or leaves or mulch or....... Capitalisim provides items or services that a customer wants and needs. It's really an easy concept to learn.

You don't understand Al. We're trying to teach you. Liberals want the government to do their bidding for them. Liberals think what they are doing is good. I cannot argue with that. The problem is liberals, for whatever reason, are unable to use the private world or do it on their own. It may be liberals are failures at Capitalism, and that makes liberals mad.

Conservatives want to do good things too. However, they want to do good things themselves, and conservatives do not want to use someone else (government) to do it for them.

Honestly, liberals make better public servants in government because they are failures or think they will fail in capitalism. It's true Al.

You don't understand what conservatives think. But you know what, Ronald Reagan was a democrat before he was a republican. There is still hope for you.

Conservatives love their government. Their government is there for the people. Government preserves their freedoms. Obama and his hoards are stealing the freedoms, and it will not be tolerated. Period.
