This is a rave to say goodbye to Bea Arthur, one of my favorite actresses of my childhood. I grew up watching Golden Girls and enjoying the constant nagging, opinions and depth of friendship of the group, something not lost on a somewhat oblivious child. My wife and I still watch an occasional episode when it pops up, and I still get a kick out of those ladies.
Bea Arthur was one of my favorites of the show, her comedic timing was great and she was lovable even behind her deep voice and somewhat intimidating persona. I was too young to know her from "Maude" or "All in the Family," though I think she was memorable enough as Dorothy in "the Golden Girls."
So to Bea I say goodbye, and I am thankful that the reports are that she went peacefully. Maybe the wife and I will watch some old reruns as our farewell, just as long as you give Betty White's character some serious grief!
