There has been a couple of interesting studies recently.
The first study shows that most people in the country do not think that natural disasters (like the Quake and Tsunami in Japan, or Katrina) are punishment by God, except for the Evangelicals.
Only 29% of Americans think that God punishes the nation for the sins of the few, but twice that number of evangelicals think that is the case.
That gives rise to nutcases like the Westburo church members who show up at the funerals of our fallen heroes saying God killed them because the nation tolerates gays.
"Most white evangelicals (84%) and minority Christians (76%) believe God is in control of everything that happens in the world."
http://www.usatoday.com/news/religion/20...That makes the next study really interesting.
Our nation has an obesity epidemic. This results in earlier deaths from diabetes, heart disease, and other weight related maladies.
It turns out that those who attend church regularly are 50% more likely to become obese than those who don't attend church.

Perhaps in related news, White Evangelicals are the most opposed to Michelle Obama's attempts to reduce childhood obesity.
