it is reported that it was opening skiing earlier than in the past 40 years.

Arapahoe Basin was opening the earliest in its 64 year history.

it is reported that in Bellview, Idaho, a heavy snowstorm was one for the record books, and the kids had the earliest snow day in the school district's history.

Need I say more?

Oh yea, one more thing. You global warming...er..uh..global cooling...uh...er...climate change people with questionable judgment are lead by the same guy who said Bush and Cheney allowed 911 to happen. Watch this video.

You can't be serious?!?!?

Thank you for the article, but that seems to be absolute nonsense, absurd and honestly, childish. I mean, it ends with saying everytime we turn up the thermostat, we are contributing to global warming.

So if it is cold, it really means it is warm. And if it is warm, it really means it is warm.

The whole argument seems insane. Honestly.

(Thanks for responding to this post though.)

That increase can cause drastic changes in weather patterns such as a more dramatic swing in the jet stream which can cause more sever winter weather and also extreme heat. It just depends on where you live. Keeping that in mind I live in Chicago and while it was brutally cold for a few days this winter, when I think back to winters when I was growing up there was a lot more snow for a lot longer.
31 months ago: PH, I love that new tag. Volcanos cause global cooling. Firestorms in California add more CO2 than cars in California. El Nino and La Nina effect the global temperatures. Can we please get our government to pass a bill that we can pay for which, plugs volcanos, hydrates California and builds a hugh wind break to stop El Nino / El Nina. Sorry you live in Illinois as it will be one of the first hit by the Global Cooling. I do like the name of your town though. Normal, Illinois. Perfect sarcasm at its best.

31 months ago: Cypress, I am not sure what you are trying to say with your post, but an effect of Global Climate Change (a better name than global warming) is some spots will be colder during some periods of time.

I actually do live in the town named Normal, IL. It is the home of Illinois State University.
31 months ago: What I am saying is buy lots of heavy blankets or move south.

While I do not doubt your sincerity, please listen carefully.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES ARE NOT INCREASING.

Let me repeat.

THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES ARE NOT INCREASING.

Algur is an idiot, and those "scientists" you reference, are intellectually dishonest and corrupted by their grant money.

Let me repeat.

Algur is a blithering idiot who loves himself. He probably puts on a record when he gets home and dances a slow dance with himself.

Humans have NO EFFECT on climate.

31 months ago: Ahh, another skeptic who does not understand the difference between weather and climate! There sure are a lot of skeptics who don't know the first thing about climate change. The less you know, the more you doubt! But if you look at renowned skeptic Roy Spencer's data, you'll see very clearly that 2009 is going to be one of the hottest years on record:
http://discover.itsc.uah.edu/amsutemps/amsutemps.html
Time to change your argument from "global cooling" to "I never doubted that it was warming, I just doubted that man was the cause of it!" You skeptics love changing your argument quicker than the wind changes!

Dr. of what?
Comedy?
You are funny.
31 months ago: and everyone who believes in human affected global change knows the first thing and everything thereafter about climate change.

Oh, I see.

Thanks for clearing that up doc.

31 months ago: The reason scientists stopped using the term Global Warming and prefer the term Climate Change, is that the term confused those that don't understand the science. It isn't always going to be warmer everywhere. Climate Change will be result in more changes in the weather, (things will be different than recent historical expectations, sometimes hotter sometimes colder, sometimes dryer, sometimes wetter)and more extreme storms (like in the South Pacific).
Doesn't matter what you call it though, if you deny reality you will find yourself in a smaller and smaller minority and dismissed as a crazy fringe group.
31 months ago: Altruist, he's redstateguy. He's already in a crazy fringe group of one.
31 months ago: Heynnn.

You took the words right out of my mouth.

You socialists and your global warming...er..climate change used to be funny. It's starting to be scary.

31 months ago: This article is ridiculous. I do appreciate your faith in local news as being absolute fact. However, it may benefit you greatly to do your "research" elsewhere. It has been proven that the Little Ice Age was caused by warming which led to ice caps in the Arctic melting, which led to more cold water in the major ocean currents, which led to the mid-Atlantic current actually stopping, and thus ceasing to transport warm southern air to Europe and North America. Global warming has many effects which do not seem to necessarily make sense, but the science behind them is well proven and not at all scientifically debated. In the end, what global warming/climate change leads to is more erratic weather patterns caused by the screwed up jet streams and ocean currents - the two major climate contributers.

But, I guess you make a point. There's now more time for all of our favorite activities! The coast of Maine was warm enough to swim in for weeks longer than usual, and now the skiing season has been extended! Awesome.

There is a difference between weather and climate that you are not recognizing. Weather is what is happening today. Climate is the average weather over 30 years. When this is looked at it is clear that there has been a warming effect on the planet. The 8 warmest years on record since 1880 all happened after 2001. Climate change is very real no matter what anybody says, it is here and it is going to impact all of us some day.
31 months ago: What year is this? It is real funny that all of the science data is old data. It is almost like they are afraid to publish current data because it will make them look like fools.

Did you miss this first line in the gis link?

Calendar year 2008 was the coolest year since 2000, according to the Goddard Institute for Space Studies analysis (I wonder how 2009 will turn out).

Let's look at this first line from the EPA.

Records from land stations and ships indicate that the global mean surface temperature warmed by about 0.9°F since 1880. 1880? 1880? 1880? get the point? No? What technology was available in 1880 to document a temperature within a TENTH OF A DEGREE?

Land stations are based where and have been for how long? has there been any developemnt in close proximity to the land based sensors? We love that land based sensor data. You do know that they are located in parking lots and behind buildings. Most are not located in remote rural hidden in the trees away from humans. You want false numbers keep planting them where the liars live.

31 months ago: Try this link.

http://books.google.com/books?id=A7wxTqCBFCEC&pg=RA1-PA383&lpg=RA1-PA383&dq=sunspot+graph+since+1880&source=bl&ots=bGBZlXC66e&sig=95TrXzHuzKejomkadgpMyjJ5mKA&hl=en&ei=gdXQStvRNJP2NYOoxJQD&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1&ved=0CAwQ6AEwAA#v=onepage&q=sunspot%20graph%20since%201880&f=false

Yeah, I know it is long. If it does not work then just google

sunspot graph since 1880

Wow! The quoted temperature rise actually can be documented with our Sun's activity. Go figure. Hot Sun. Hot Earth.

Looks like the Sun has been calming down now. How will the 2008 and 2009 data fit into your claim?

Truth is scientists are guessing.

Try playing the lotto.
